A Chain around a tree

www.pearce-environment.co.uk/acatalog/Nest_Box_Accessories.html - 38k

developed in the uk. i bought four of them from the guy. standard fasteners in the uk where most trees that get lightning protection are redwoods. thick bark fast growth and mature size make it a good idea on those. the designer had hoped to get them standardized here in the usa but was stymied by those wanting to keep costs down.

he sells them for $15 each while regular fasteners are 3. it got kinda nasty when he started calling those who disagreed with him some uncomplimentary names.

I once left a memorial to a friend on a tree in a remote gorge... some wind chimes hung from a branch. He would have never wanted something big or damaging to the environment.

Treespotter, I understand,I think what you are saying is that even with a non-invasive product. You still compromise the integrity of said limb with it just resting on the limb? Jsin

That's not the same. Limb on limb isn't the whole circumference. A graft can (if it's the unlucky tree) be a whole circumference problem. If the rays grow from the inside out, they keep the tree rings in it's place. If there is a twist in the woods growth, these rays "pull" into the vertical direction where there is nothing (no tree ring) to keep in place. A tree ring growing in the "wrong" direction with it's width in the vertical direction, this one will create a horizontal crack in a dry tree (during high respiration).

Thank you all for your thoughtful and experienced comments and suggestions. You guys have opened my eyes!
Fondly,

Here is a cable about a tree - it was connected to a tree further up the ridge - one tree died and was cut the other is still standing but the cable is no longer visible except at the original connection to the cable.
