8th Annual Fall Climb @ Casa Ziablo

Gearing up for tomorrow!

For all the folks that can't make it (maybe next year) , here's a couple of pics of the back yard where we do the Fall Climb.

This is my backyard looking from the house. It is about 300 acres of woods and then a lake. I totally don't own any of those 300 acres, but I traipse all around in the woods back there.

There are boulders on the side of the ravine to play on. We tie into the trees on the top and descend down onto the boulders.

We mostly do hardcore poses and look around....

And then we get tired and take a little nap.

I don't have any photos from the pre-climb in the largest Beech with Rich and Jeff on Wednesday, but I would say Sunday is going to be chock-full of photos of the climb.

Now I am just going through old gear, checking ropes and getting as much set up as I can do alone...... It's a rough job, thank God for miller lite flavored water and chocolate pudding pie leftover from Thanksgiving with the whipped cream all fluffy on the top, and the graham cracker crust that I made in a roundabout way by paying for it at the store.

Jeff made us two firelogs for the A.P. tomorrow night. Say hello to my main man Cane, a Swiss Mountain Mutt weighing in at a trim 110 lbs at 8 years of age. This dog used to climb dogwood trees, in the 10-15 foot range.

I am totally ready to get up in them trees all day tomorrow!

Did I mention that it will be a full moon tomorrow night? Funny, almost like I planned it to coincide on a full moon.

xplain the concept of a fire log please.
do the cuts go all the way through?
man I wish I could make it.
looks like i would would need a cup holder for my saddle though. Or perhaps a camelpack full of beer would work well too.

Have fun and be safe and dont get to high...at least not above your TIP anyways

The concept of a firelog is pretty simple, there was a thread all about making them,

The way we do it is to make side ventilation slots (number of slots dependent on species and how dead the wood is) and then a pattern on the top, going down about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to the bottom. Put lighter fluid on the log and light it!

I just got down out of one of the White Oaks in the front yard, I set up a traverse line to the other side of the yard into another White Oak. It works like a champ!

All right, back to setting up the rope swing in the back....
