455 rancher *DELETED*

Re: 455 rancher

If it were me I would look for a used pro saw in the 60cc range in good shape. You would be much better off, however I have a 445 husky which is just a couple sizes smaller than the 455 and it has been bullet proof. I picked it up for $75 the guy didn't even run a whole tank through it and the recoil was giving him trouble so he put it up for sale. I went home and tore the recoil apart and re wrapped it and it has been fine since it has cut well over 100 cord of small wood and has been designated as my beater saw that just stays on the truck for cutting out trails and roads. I have never been nice to it all I have done is clean out the bar and the air filter and run it and I haven't had a minutes trouble with it. I don't like the saw and if it blew up tomorrow I wouldn't be sad but it sure doesn't owe me a thing.

won a 545 at NE Grows and its sweet. i like it better than the farmboss i bought a few years ago. Nice and light, does what its made to do nicely. lighter than my Farmboss, and does everything it does.

This often seems to be the case. I would much rather have a homeowner husqvarna than a comparable stihl, especially on the older models.

Re: 455 rancher

I fell into a couple 455s and started using them daily on the tree crews. I figured they would last about six months. To my surprise, they have done very well. Other than one of them being run over by a machine, they have been bulletproof imo. Hassle free cutting everyday for over a year, pretty light with good power. Keep them sharp and they do anything you need out of a ground saw for half the price of a "pro version". I have no interest in another 346 or whatever is available now for $600-700. We have a 372xp for big stuff and 540s in the tree, but the ranchers are work horses right out of the box.

The only downside I see is the lack of easy access fasteners for the air filter etc.
