I've read several articles about this process. There are lots of options of course.

What I'd like to know is if anyone on TB has actually done any converting?

Which technique?
How did the conversion work?
Was it worth the time/energy/effort/money?

Hi Tom

I bought a scanner with a slide scanning insert. I scanned every single slide (as well as photo) in our family collection as well as my own images and made a copy of it for all my bros and my sister and my parents. It took months, but it was so worth it.
In my case the quality was not top shelf but a little photo-shopping made most slides quite acceptable.
You can also take slides to a photo store and have them do it.
My scanner is fairly old by today`s standards. My scanner does regular scans, slides as well as negatives - turning them into positives. A little research will probably find you the best scanners available today. You can buy some units dedicated only for this purpose. Some systems allow for more to be done at once than others. So that may be a factor, if you have lots you just must scan.

I bought an early one, Canon? USB 1.0. It probably still works.

Its tedious because it took around 40 seconds to do the scan. No way to pre-load, so when each slide was done it was to unload it, load a new one, do the yadda-yadda with the software. I was doing good to get 8 slides in a 10 minute period.

I get distracted.

If I were to do it again, I'd get a top-of-the line Nikon, or whomever Nikon has make theirs, of eBay. Then do the project, and re-sell it.

I found this:

Shot Copy

It looks simple and quick.

I dug out my slide projector a while ago. when I pulled a couple of slides out of the carousel I realized that there are some good pics that aren't available...yet.

TP...I might try that. I have a small, table top screen that would make this easy.

In the end I don't want to have to go back and clean up the images using Elements. That's too much hassle.
