30m ascent

From top; petzl ascension hand ascender (tethered to bridge with a sling) and footloop to left foot. Croll to harness with a sling over the shoulder and a pantin on right foot. Ropewalker setup.

And at the top either switch to petzl rig for SRT or set frictionsaver and install MRT with the tail I'd brought with me.

I would definitely buy one.
I LOVE mine! I am heavier above the waist now in my sixties and it is a constant fight to keep from tipping over backwards without my chest roller. Wearing it takes all the strain out and turns an ascent into a much more relaxing exercise. I can ascend SRT almost hands free, using my legs almost entirely.

I just tried one this past weekend at Legends/Geezers and loved it. Order will go out soon.

I've been considering getting/making a chest harness due to a shoulder injury that I'm not ready to have surgery on, has anyone tried this one? https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=82&item=14822. Quite the cost savings vs the one your talking about and all you need to add is a quickie or a dmm xsre to keep you from leaning too far back on the rope.
In the 10 feet or so that I tried it, it made a huge difference. There is s lot of me from the waist up and pulling back into climbing position from a resting position on the rope using the chest roller is a significant energy saver.

On rope1 has an order in to rock exotica for a number of double roller units. He is waiting on delivery now. Should be in now but RE is a bit behind with them as well as akimbo. You can pre-order them though. I am going to order one for certain. Anything to make life easier.
Thanks for heads up. So I hope soon!!

The PMI chest harness is made to work with the Rock Exotica chest rollers. It is a separate item from the Rock Exotica chest roller. It is also available for purchase right now for the same price as the harness to which you provided a link.

If you bought the PMI harness instead, it would give you the option to add the chest roller in the future, if you decided you wanted to go all in on it.

One obvious thing to remember about the use of all of these chest attachments is that you have to have a foot or knee ascender or a foot lock in play below the chest attachment, to hold the rope taut, in order for the chest attachment to hold you upright. Removing all of your attachments to the rope below the roller or chest attachment will introduce slack in the line, and your upper body will fall backwards as far as the balance of your harness will allow. I hope that makes some sense. It is why the double roller and two climbing ropes makes so much sense to me. As long as you have an ascender on one of the two ropes below the chest roller, you can make changes to the ascenders on the other rope without flopping over backwards. Having the double roller gives you more options.

I

We had a 22 sec 80’ ascent this past weekend at the PNW TCC.
Back in my caving days when I was in my 20's I was in a very small (3 guys) climbing contest. We timed a 100 ft climb. The young guy (18) sprinted the first 50 feet and completely gassed out by 60 ft. He struggle the last 40 feet for a total time of 2 minutes. Puked his guts out after he was done. Seeing that I took off much more slowly but still struggled the last 10 feet, for a total time of about a minute. The "old guy" (40 ish) started at a reasonable pace and won in about 40 seconds. A 100 ft climb is def different than a 50 ft climb.

I agree with the idea that rec climbing ascending approaches can and should differ, depending on the length of the ascent. Reaching anything under say 75' is strenuous, but most climbers can reach that height with pretty much any combination of gear and climbing techniques, but when you're dealing with a giant Redwood with the lowest limb at say 150' straight up, I like to travel light and I'm a lot more inclined to use something like a chest roller with a foot and knee ascender, or even a hand ascender and foot loop together with either a foot or knee ascender, if I'm climbing in boots or shoes. For really long descents of at least 200', I have concerns over mechanical devices becoming overheated and/or exerting excessive friction on friction knots .
