2nd Annual Spring Splicing Symposium

Due to the recent ice storm and wind storms that we have suffered here in L'ville (not to mention the fire and other damage we had on the property) we have decided to move the classroom portion of this event from the 750 acre farm to a building in nearby Lebanon Junction (2 miles from farm) This building is split into 2 seperate rooms, and therefore, we have decided to modify how we intend to run the actual classes. For those who attended this event last year and had to suffer through somewhat chilly conditions in the large Barn you will be thrilled to know that the classes this year will be held in climate controlled rooms with many more anchoring points than we had last year. The tentative class schedule is attached to this post. Note that these times are tentative and more than likely we will spend considerably more time splicing than you see in the syllabus.

We still fully intend to have the 750 acre property available for recreational use, including: camping, climbing, treeboating, canoeing, hiking, lounging around, fishing, and goofing off. The only real change is that the classroom sessions will be held off the property.

As for the Treeboats.....

Due to the fact that we will have a limited number of Treeboats for use I am hoping that we can alternate between the participants in order to allow as many people as possible to experience sleeping aloft. So far we have 5 Treeboats available and my hope is that we can line up 5 people who will be heading into town on Friday 13 Feb, 5 who can use the boats on Saturday 14 Feb, and then finally 5 people who plan to stay over Sunday night for that last shift. Certainly those who plan to come earlier than Friday or stay later than Monday would have the boats available to them as well. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who knows for sure that they will be staying over Sunday night or arriving early in order to start figuring out the schedule for Treeboat use. I am still doing what I can to acquire more Treeboats for use, so the numbers involved here may change.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding any of this.

I plan on sleeping (passing out) underneith a large oak that is littered with poison ivy, and I have a feeling I won't be the only one.

All jokes aside. Human crane and myself have paid in full and will see you all there. We will be in town Friday night, probably sleeping at the hotel or the toyota motel (mini van) then we plan on camping Saturday night, due to the fact that I doubt I'll be able to climb into bed after the festivities begin.

I'm counting on your ky boys to bring the noise and please show me where I can buy fireworks, booze, a gun and baby wipes all in the same store.

Damn I'm pumped, can you tell?

Oh yeah, one more thing, I swear I do not have a drinking problem.

Anyone who prefers Tennessee swill to the sweet Kentucky nectar definitely has a drinking problem in my book !!!!

Actually the main Double Braid section will be for splicing Class I cordage, such as Velocity, Blaze, and Tachyon. The Class II and non traditional Class II will be covered in the optional evening class or if time allows after the Class I section.

If anyone wants to buy a treeboat, I know of one that may be for sale. Comes with a tent top and some other goodies...

As of this second we are up to 43 participants. For those looking to sign up at the last second, please contact me today ( Feb 27 ) so that we can have accurate numbers for the catering and other stuff.

Rich, don't make a hundred trips to the airport if you don't have to.
