2014 ZigZag .... safe?????

I might be crazy, but I love the ZigZag... I haven't tried it with SRT and a HH or RR, but will give that a try in spring. It seems quite a bit smoother to me than a traditional hitch climber setup, which I also use, and it is certainly the easiest of the mechanical devices to transition to from a hitch climber. I don't recall anyone falling from the crack problem, and none of mine have had any problems. But then, they're rather expensive and I treat them accordingly.

I purchased one and whimper out and returned it. Wish it was built better with greater regard for safety. I wanted one so bad. Being a big guy, I'm not taking any chances.

I'm an old, fat bald guy... about 215 lbs with gear and a MS-201T on my harness... they seem to handle that with ease. The beefed up parts in the last release appear to be holding up.

If anyone is interested in trying the ZigZag out, now is a good time... Bartlett has ALL Petzl stuff on sale 20% off. That puts the ZZ at $220.00 which is what I gave for my last one when they did this a couple months back. This also gets the Zillon lanyard down to $200.00 which is another Petzl item I've been wanting to try.

Just a heads up for the fearless early adopters... :)

I like the zz, had first model and returned on recall and got a check back. Picked up one couple weeks ago. I gotta say I still put my hand up there to "set my hitch" by instinct on occasion. Yes it's life support, so is lanyard and all the other pulleys and whatnot in your climbing system. I also WR and hitchclimber so I'm not defending or bagging on petzl. It is the first major gear mfgr to mass produce a mechanical hitch like this. It's come a long way from blakes hitch to where we are in the industry. They will get it right or scrap it altogether. Too much liability at stake.

Monkeylove.. good to hear! Haven't heard anything bad about the Zillon, so might pick one up this week!
Lomonjello... yeah, that's my feeling, too.. they'll fix the problems or stop making them. GriGri and other things they make have evolved based on customer concerns, and I think this one will, too. Right now, I'm dealing with feeBay over a pulley I received with the ball bearing assembly missing. Tonight on the phone, they actually are taking my concerns seriously. Don't really care about the refund, just don't want the seller putting someone's life in jeopardy. Should know in 48 hours how that's all going to pan out.

FWIW...looking at Petzl's documents, they released a 2014 model, but have a later version with beefed up links. In correspondence with bartlettman today, I was told the latest version was released in November and that they have them on order.

Thanks for the heads up on the 20% off.
That also makes a good deal on the RIG, my top choice when it comes to setting up a base anchor rescue. (but that is another thread)

I should have added that they let me order the zig zag now with the 20% discount and note in the order comments that I wanted the November Zig Zag model expected to be in stock in a couple of weeks.

Have you looked at the ISC D4 descender? I was thinking about using mine for that purpose. I originally bought it for a static descent line I use for tower climbs, but I think it might work for a lowerable base anchor setup, too. Would be nice to get double use out of the pricey bastard.
