2008, biggest baddest

Cool pics Carl.
Would it kill you to smile once in awhile?

Man Gord, I would have loved to hear that log fall. Cool!

Lumberjack- You need a guy like me to do your grinding, that looks easy compared to some I've done. Had an oak lke you show inyour pics, but on a hill and uprooted. that was fun. I value my life first then the machine. The machine can be fixed. Nice job on that huge tree, that thing is a monster! Your a good guy to fixing the concrete. I see alot of cracked concrete from some of my trimmers, and nobody owns up to it. I'm like you, if i mess up, I make it right, that goes much further in the end.

Good lord, Gord! Way to one up everyone!

Jimmy, the heat index that day was around 105*, I didn't give a rip about smiling, especially for you! :)

Haha stump man, I have 3500ish hours of stump grinding love. You do realize that the stump has been pulled in every picture but the first? The log on the first is about 8' longer than it is in the rest of the pictures.

"Biggest" stump grinding job of 08 that I have pictures of. 135 minutes of grinding, around 40 stumps 20" or bigger, the biggest being around 40" and another 60-70" stumps under 10". The spec was to go 2-3" deep. From that job I got two other jobs of equal size.

My biggest net hourly, done two like this in December. 34 minutes start to finish including flopping another dead pine, $300, under $5 in expense. $511 per hour in profit working out of my Civic, no cleanup. Gin poled the tree out with the GRCS.

PS: To whomever cares. Sorry about the stretcher above^^^, it's fixed now although you'll have to clear the picture from your temp files to notice the difference.

I'm kinda lost now- When you say "pulled" your saying that you pulled them ut with a tow truck? or ground out?

I pulled that particular stump off the retaining wall and back onto level ground. I grind it because the stump and machine would end up in the building under the stump (less than 4' away).

Normally we grind them, obviously. That's the first stump I "had" to pull.

I want to say that stump was $800ish, in addition to removing the tree that fell in the yard.

I got ya. After I typed back, I looked at the pick closer. I almost expected you to say that. Good idea. Yeah I'm sure that truck was not cheap. How easily did it pull it out? What did you do with it afterwards?

The owner of the wrecker is a friend of mine. He charged $300, and it took a bit less than 2 hours from the time he got there till the stump was dumped at the recyling yard.

Pulling wasn't too bad. He lifted it and I backed the trailer under it. Hauled it to the recycling yard and I was done :) I checked the bid sheet (itemized for insurnace), the stump was $950.

Getting that long truck turned into the drive was a PITA, took about 25 minutes to make the turn in and out.

Here it is after it got turned into the drive.

Here is a job I started Dec. 29th, 2008. But, I didn't finish it until today, Jan. 1st, 2009. Does that count?

Any who it was the largest tree I have taken down. It was a severely decaying and splitting Willow. Diameter at breast height was 105". This was in a back yard. Not crane accessible, tight back yard, fences, over hung 3 properties, over hung a tall Spruce and many neighbors shrubs. I even had to watch out for the neighbor's curious pet black rabbit!

The thing got under me while I was working above it and it literally sat there... Finally, the owner noticed it and got the rabbit. Silly rabbit...tree removals are not for kids.

Sorry, I just had to...

Any how. The tree had about 10-15% sound wood shell. I honestly don't know how it was still standing. But, I guess every last fiber counts, right?

The photo is me inside of the rotted out stump. The customer allowed me to make the cut slightly lower than the fence. She is going to plant come creeping flowering vine inside...

More photos will come later. I have to edit them and stuff.
