1998 Bandit 65 chipper questions?

Yes, I see what you mean, but that spot is above the Anvil, I don't think a well adjusted sharp Anvil would protect that area. I mean it's bandits Design flaw not to cover that spot somehow with a different shaped Anvil or something like that?

Bandit themselves may be best bet for new. Ebay has them listed for 65XP but be careful that may well not fit older 65.

Nortrax (Ontario Bandit bandits) seemed too inconvenienced to want to order me one a few years ago, so I ordered direct from the U.S. Bandit mothership.
And it turned out to be a really spendy little chunk of steel, coupled with the exchange rate, and shipping.

Thanks for the order info, I'll look into it...I learned United rental sold it years ago and has had two owners since 650hrs and a fantastic price :) engine seems strong and everything else seems tight! Seems to only need some tlc, but time will tell...

Hmm, I'm on my computer looking at pictures for the first time now. Phones are nice but.... A person who wanted to spend no money would flip that anvil steel over on its holding plate and use two more edges it appears to me. (On one of those edges they would need to remove a couple of broken off bolts if I'm seeing correctly. ) I would replace and start new.

I can't quite get how anvil is set in near knives and relationship of wear pattern. Would you mind holding or setting that in place and picturing?

One thing I can tell you is that the anvil did not get that beat from just chipping brush. Yours need never look that way again. Rental chippers have rakings and all the attached gravel go through them. Also dimensional lumber and any nails etc.. At 650 hours you have thousands of hours left on that machine.

Yeah, you should have many hours left on your chipper,,, if it is used for chipping (sharp knives, squared up & adjusted anvil) instead of hammering brush.

Ya, when I saw the Anvil out and all the worn edges, it made me excited to have new knives and a new Anvil and them all adjusted properly Looking forward to it!!!

Just wanted to shout out a thanks to Dave (aka pelorus) for letting me drop buy his house and show me a few things about his chipper, loan me a hitch-hiker and give me some hardware for my chipper...nice to know there's still some helpful people in this world (I know there's a bunch more on this site also).

Thanks,
Ken

Hey Ken was nice meeting you yesterday also at Dave's when we popped by on our way back from our job up north! Hope your chipper serves you well! Our 65 when we need to use it runs very well and strong still! Speaking of Dave if anyone here doesn't know him at all, he would give his shirt off his back to anyone, and is not only an awesome climber/tree guy/ tell it as it is guy but an all round amazing individual!

Ken sharp knives and this combination, was an island job can't be beat ! Our 65 can throw the chips a good distance for such a compact chipper! Plus can be towed by ATV or
Mini skid into backyards, or any other tight spots where the big chippers can't go

Ken, have now met my 2 favorite Canucks: @deevo and @Pelorus ! Great guys who I never would have had the pleasure of meeting if it weren't for the Buzz. Guys I really wish I could hang out with regularly and not just at the Expos. Like @merle_nelson said, this place is full of incredible people!
(My apologies to squad143, classictruckman, Oak Savanna and everyone else whom I haven't yet met, or only met briefly.)

Just an update...got a new anvil and I sharpened my knives...the 30horse Wisconson seems like it might be a little tired...BUT! Yes it is nice! Love the 12"x6" opening just sucks the branches in!!! And chippes quite well...it's all I need for now :)

Anyone know a good source for 1998 bandit 65 chipper knives, for a fair price (FYI: I live in Ontario Canada)

Ken

found it, Ken:
For Simmonds knives, (which I like and use), send an email request to:
nlaflamme@simmondsint.com
She has moved up in the company over the years, but the time I ordered from Simmonds (3 or 4 years ago), she got it looked after.

Thanks Dave!!! Contacted Simmond's knives just like you suggested!!! Waaaayyy better price than a bandit dealer! Some of those "nortrax" dealers don't even get back to you with answers about your questions! You'd think they would want to sell you something?

Thanks again!
Ken
