175 Ton Knuckleboom

Yeah 6t56 It's 1 of only 2 in the u.s. Ranger posted photos of the other one. It's owned by a crane service in NY. I've heard that crane is driving his competition in the ground. Because of all the knuckles he can do jobs that crane services can't do or would need a much larger crane and set up further from the bldg! In fact he's doing so well with it He (Mr. Pinkus) just bought an EFFER model 2200!!! Hey Jamin! I've always wondered about that too! I can see the homeowners point of view, but does the pilot of a 747 call you at home to ask if he can fly abig hunk of metal over your house?

Great point. I'll use that if someone ever gives me a hard time.

And what was the diameter of the Hackberry?

And does your K-boom have a scale on it? I can't remember if that was communicated...

Hey mike,I was looking at the chart for your k boom and if im reading it right your capacity is the same at 0 degrees as it is at 80 degrees. And the only thing that dictates your capacity is boom lenght? Is this correct?

Yes that's correct 6t56. unless you have the jib knuckle over center (then you only have to deduct a small percentage) This is another plus for K-BOOMS

Hey Classictruckman, how's it going? I think you misunderstood? you can still boom up with a very large load when the jib is overcenter. (somewhere in this post there is a photo of the main boom flat, the jib 20 degrees over center & picking a 6000lb log at a 100 foot radius- the post says "playing with the jib" Hey Ranger! It's 130 feet. It will pick 3000lb plus at 120 foot radius.

Great pics Mike!!! The in tree perceptive is great!!

Looks like you're liking the Tachyon!! I remember Wagnaw over at tree house posting a couple of pics of the tachyon splice he did for you. Same one you're flying in the pics I think.

This opinion is coming from a stick boom operator, but the fact booming up doesn't improve your capacity is a down side to me because if you are out near the limit with a stick boom you can notch the pick towards the crane and make it vertical by booming up and improving your capacity.

BTW 3000lbs at 120' is very awesome.

Think of it the other way. A knuckleboom doesnt loose capacity as you boom down. That is the advantage over a stick crane.

I pulled a stick to me the way you describe yesterday(although not near capacity) to make it come off smooth. We can still do that.
