10mm beeline spliced prussik

I'm ready to upgrade my prussik from doubled and fishermanned 8mm cord to something more sleek and more easily stowed for the remainder of the climb. Having big gloved hands make me think I want something bulkier like 10mm to ease the pushing of the knot and the strenght of beeline. My question is if anyone has spliced it before. Customer service was not very helpful but said it would be a standard double braid splice but not having done many it seems that the jacket is too tight. What other materials would be more appropriate? I'd also like to make it adjustable with a captive eye krab and small friction hitch. Thanks much

They told you the right splice. However, it is not ideal for a small eye-eye sling for a climbing hitch. You might want to consider sherrill's grizzly stitch for a 10mm eye-eye sling.

Have you considered a yalex eye-eye? I make 'em sometimes out of 3/8" but then crossover the tails full length inside which gives a solid feeling 10mm sling. You don't get the abrasion and heat resistance, but you do get a thicker piece of rope to grab.

Samson's icetail is heftier, too, when you splice it with long tails as per their directions, and that's technora fibers on the outside.

Nick, it sounds like maybe he means his footlock prusik. I know some climbers that knot them at the harness tie in so they don't have the double fish banging around while they ascend.

If that's the right assumption then I think 10mm Beeline (even though I'm mad at it) is a good choice. I have a friend who just spliced a friction saver with it and he said it was an easy splice.

Thank you Nick and yes Blinky. I'd like to try Icetail at some point and enjoyed looking at the other tax deductable toys at Yalex. I'm really going for a footlock cord that will fold down further than the standard 12' loop. I knot mine at my biner and sheath the middle section inside 1" tubular webbing but between the knot with 2 tails and the bulk of the whole thing it turns into a big glob when daisy chained.

My bad! I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the part where you said it can be stowed for the rest of the climb.

The footlock prusiks I make are an eye-eye sling. So right off the bat they are less bulky because there is no rope where you don't need it. The 5/16 beeline is the most streamlined, being of the smallest diameter. It is my FLP of choice, though the bungeed tenex is very popular lately.
