I prefer a "floating" anchor. but when it get stuck on a branch during retrieval, or jams in the tie-in, it's pretty frustrating
Do you mean where the ring/biner/quickie is attached to the rope?
I like to plan routes where I can descend from my tie-in downwards. I find in some trees it's more efficient for me to redirect through branch unions and not plan to return from where I came from. By the time I'm on the...
With this it looks like the knot blocking will pull the flint locker down as you pull your climb line. Do you find the green ring adds friction to your climb line (as you retrieve it) if you've taken some redirects?
I've been using flint locker type thing for canopy anchors. I'm wondering if a anyone knows a simple way to ensure that it gets to the ground instead of risking that it gets caught on something on the way down.
I've found that the material usually gets destroyed from seams getting pulled open, crotches getting blown out, etc. It's possible that the base layer might also get snagged, but I feel like the main protective material of my past pants have been intact, so hopefully the base layer will still...
Thanks all. I was looking at the Clogger all season and the Gladiators, but I really like the idea of the base layer/outer shell that Arbortec have. If I only have to replace the outer shell every once and awhile, instead of a complete set, that might make more sense to me.
Anyone have any recommendations for really tough chainsaw pants? I've gone through 2 in the last 4 months because I stretched and the material ripped too much to be fixed (not crotch related).
I'm sure someone has done this or asked about it, but I couldn't find the discussion. I was thinking about replacing the main attachment part of the rope runner with a quickie. My desire is to make it a little shorter. I can't see that the main attachment part of the rope runner pro is there...
There is a lot of dieback in the tree. Basically what I was thinking was reducing the crown over time to the point where it is putting on new growth. The thing I am wondering is by the time this happens, will the epicormic growth be too big to leave considering how weak they probably will be...
It's Manitoba maple/box elder. The crown isn't big, maybe 35 feet height and spread. The new growth the I would eventually cut it to starts at about the 15 foot height. The client wants to keep it. We are discussing a strategy where we reduce it over time.
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the structural strength of new growth (epicormic) on a mature tree that is in slow decline. I think this new growth would be stronger than the re-growth from a topped section. But since it is a response to losing foliage from the exterior sections of...
I've been using the ninja for the last couple months. Some climbs I find it's quite fluid, some climbs it will kick out or my line will drag/cams won't let my line through. I don't think it's about the weight of the line since this will happen when I'm 20+ feet up. Anyone have any tips on how...
I've been using the purple/green Endurance with a Hitch Hiker for a couple months. I love it. I like that it feels like it has less stretch then the Yale 7/16"s the I was using previously. Might be a little less knotable than others lines, but if you're climbing SRS, it's not like you'd be...
I've been having some issues with my tree motion sliding around my hips. Do you find the suspenders make a difference? Can I ask what suspenders you're using?
I feel like I should know the answer to this, but don't. Is there a reason we the klemheist shouldn't be used, as a hitch, if it is configured with a wrench (or another device to add friction)?
I love seeing all these variations. At first it made me think of an f8, but moving the bend in the rope in-between the hitch and the biner, but I realize it's quite different. This is my take on it. I wish the quickie was wider so I could use a larger diameter cord.
One thing I really noticed that changed when I switched to srs is planning. I found it a lot easier to think of how I could plan my climb from the top down so I could incorporate natural crotch redirects and have my "tip" above me. Of course this only really works with basal anchors.
