Isn’t that an adjustability pain? I got some rope slings with hooks earlier in the year and I absolutely hate them because I’m always trying to take up slack with wraps and half hitches. I much prefer the infinite adjustability of hookless rope slings
We use a cow hitch, often with a half hitch further out on the balance point. We will only use a timber hitch if we don't have enough tail to tie a cow. We used to use running bowlines, they worked but always required adjustment after pre-tension and they could sometimes be a pain to untie. the...
I understand the shit show customers... the beauty of tree work is we can usually weed those out before they agree to do the job. For me we only have one crane company local and they typically cant come to you at the drop of a hat, whereas I could definitely service crane customers within 2-3...
I don’t know Steve personally, but I have heard him speak and teach at events and I keep up with him on social media. He is definitely in a super small niche market for crane/tree work. I’m actually thinking getting into crane work will help us avoid slow times. We will still Be capable tree...
I’m looking at this too. I’m young now but I won’t be young forever. Even without climbing, tree work is a young man’s game. I love tree work but I think crane work is a good exit strategy in 25-30 years as I get older. Training a replacement climber seems insurmountable right now.
I completely understand what you are saying here... I have had the thought myself and made peace with the potential consequences. I don't think my feelings would be hurt if we ended up being more "crane company" than a "tree company." Hacks completely dominate our market with ropes, skid steers...
Awesome set up. 12’ radius with 125’ of boom is impressive, our 40 ton doesn’t like anything closer than 25’ with 105’ of boom. Most people always think about how far they can reach but occasionally there are jobs where it’s tricky to get far enough away from the tree. Especially on big live...
Yes I did! That was the first thing I checked when I got it back. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t getting someone else’s saw. But the serial numbers matched my original invoice from my local dealer
Do you have a basic set up you keep on the crane for this type of work? Right now In addition to our dead eye sling sets for trees, I keep 4) 20’ 13k endless round slings, 4) 16’ 8k endless round slings, 4) 3/4” pin shackles and 4) 1” pin shackles
Lol I have a huge social media following! Got at least 250 followers! Obviously I’m joking, but I do have green money I wanted to give him to build my saw, what more could he need?
Update: He did finally send the saw back. I received it on the exact day I told him I would report it stolen if I didn't have it by then. The saw was bone stock untouched just as I sent it 10 months ago. He was extremely irritated with me, claiming I was just trying to get something for free...
We have had our 40-ton crane for over 2 years and have stuck to trees only with a few exceptions. We keep the crane busy 2-3 days a week, but obviously, I'd like to have it working 5 days so I am looking to step into the commercial crane rental world: a/c's, trusses, tanks, industrial equipment...
I searched equipment trader for a few weeks before finding my kubota r530 for a good deal. I did notice that the used market is more limited when compared to something like a skid steer or mini excavator.
I have given him 2 weeks to get the saw to me. I told him if I don’t have it exactly then I would be reporting it stolen.
He quickly responded saying he’s been in the hospital but saw is complete and had been shipped. He said “it’s on the house” for the trouble. I asked him to please send a...
I have an onyx and a mb 1.0 I’ve been climbing in the mb since I got it from August at tcia 2021 but I haven’t been able to find the sweet spot on the leg straps. I had my onyx dialed in like a lazy boy. I love the suspenders on the mb though as 95% of my climbing is crane work so the suspenders...
That’s a good idea. I’m gonna do that. I’m not much of a bluffer, I was headed to magistrate court tomorrow to file suit with a customer who hasn’t paid his bill from February. I made my final courtesy call today telling him I was going to file suit tomorrow and he promptly gave me his card info...
