I haven't had a chance to try out the Stihl or Husqvarna electrics, but have had the Milwaukee M18 rear handle for a while now. Love the saw, has higher torque than a farmboss 290. The 12 Ah battery definitely can last longer than the bar oil, so get used to checking that. I did have the saw...
Here's a yt video from Finnish Lumberjack that explains felling leaners with the Stalpen way better than I can.
Video highlights pretty much what I was thinking with that tree. Similar to directional falling with a Silvey or the Salt Creek Hi-jacker, but without having to cut a pocket for...
Looks like a bit of a challenge. Doesn't look like there's too significant side loading, though. How dry is the trunk wood? Looks deader than disco, would think it's about as light as possible for the size.
If I were having to try and fall that ugly thing, I think it might just be the job...
The local rental place does most of their drop off and pickup of smaller units with a rollback. Great for equipment, I don't see it being as useful for logs and brush.
If you already have a CDL, I'd look into a swaploader or other hook lift. Can still use it for equipment of course, but you...
Hmm, looks like a good tool for a managed pine forest, but less so for the variety seen by the average arborist.
Maxes out at 1" capacity, I think. Doesn't explicitly state, outside of the ad copy for the saw that swaps out with the pruner head.
If I'm going to be limited to 1" or so, lets...
I look forward to hearing what people think of the Hooyman. I'm kind of hoping they eventually make a longer model with the same pole style. It's very rigid, almost no bend when using compared to my long Silky.
I don't see a need, but I'm broad enough that I could carry the 10' Hooyman...
Hooyman makes a ten foot 4 section that collapses down to around 30". Brand was originally designed for hunters, but they're gaining ground in other groups as well as releasing their versions of shovels, rakes, axes and the like. I picked one up because it'll fit into the storage compartments...
Just came across this video, robotics company mounted a telepresence robot on a lift. No purchase, rental/service contract for around $100k a year. I'd like to see a video of it operated by a "real" tree worker making real cuts, not the faffing about with a pole saw like they were doing.
I've used a SuperHoleHawg with a 30" bit and 24" extension before. Cleared the hole four or five times boring through; probably could've just let it ride. I have used the same 30" bit without clearing, for an 18" hole. Starts to feel like it wants to bind near the end, never did though. Same...
Just talked to a buddy of mine, wrecker guy, used to work at Miller. He recommends Miller's Century line, specifically the 40 series LCG. Low Center of Gravity carriers, developed for the rental industry so they can move more lifts etc without having to break out the full size semi and lowboy...
I've been using almost the same fishing as njotis, the fluoro green nonfading looks to be the same one I've been using, though a different sticker on the spool. It's about as thin as I would want to go for a throwline. 1mm diameter seems like a good middle point between the regular throwlines...
I've used it a few times, still have a couple thousand feet of the stuff. Jobsite I was on a while back, the electrical crew used it once and was throwing it away. Their complaint was they can't get it spooled well enough to feed again(lazy, lol)
As said before, it's useful for throwaway...
Well, I can't say what happens when a mower hits a climb line, but I can say what happens when you run over one of the cheapie ratchet straps from HF. It bound up my mower, stopped it dead. Wound up needing to replace the drive belts on the deck and chose to replace the blades; they were old...
Dang it oceans, why you gotta go posting things I want/need? :)
Been drooling over a spider crane of some sort for a while now, and that clamp might just be the tipping point. One of the side jobs I have is helping with setting frames for steel buildings with a telehandler. They've offered...
I'm no authority on the subject, but I haven't seen it as an offered option from Hoeflon. If you're looking for a spider crane with grapple capability, I'd suggest checking into the Effer crawler models.
Pretty impressive, amazing some of the one offs that people build for fun. Price tag of the turbine, though, ouch. Buddy is into big RC planes and copters, sent him a text asking what a Wren 44 would cost. He's got a used one he'll sell me for only $3200. About 5k new, not including gearbox...
One of the many youtube subscriptions I have is a movie trailer channel, just saw a preview for a movie called Christmas at Cattle Hill. Norwegian production, Stihl is apparently a sponsor, their logo pops up on the end title, along with the usual production sponsors such as the Nordisk Film &...
Good ol revolving 'zon listings. One I picked up is listed as currently unavailable, here's a listing for what appears to be the exact same one. I've seen it in Kobalt markings as well, though I've never actually seen it at a Lowes. Pneumatic Pruner
Haven't bit the bait on an electric pruner, but I did succumb to the temptation of a $90 pneumatic while browsing amazon a while back. Pairs great with the Milwaukee M18 compressor.
Not a daily use item, but one of the spots I found it amazing for was dealing with saplings deep in evergreen...
