    Silky saws...

So our Silky longboy bit the dust the other day, and I thought I would still be able to find one. I looked high and low, and could not find any online. Does someone know where I can order one outside of the US? It is the ultimate saw to keep in the lift with us for deadwooding, etc.

    J-mac grapple chip truck

Yes..the trucked worked a little too well. What I mean is that once we found out how nice just loading brush into a truck with the grapple was, we sold our chipper and have been just using it as a brush and log truck. So the combo feature is awesome, but we are not using it. I am taking...

    J-mac grapple chip truck

Congratulations! We have been running one for a few years, my profile pic is a JMAC. We have really liked it, but will be selling it soon.

    New estimate car

Nice car! I personally run a 2019 crew cab F150, it is amazing how versatile it is. It always surprises me how much I use it for showing older clients around on their larger properties when I am out bidding jobs. Also it doubles as a family vehicle, taking the crew out to lunch, and pulling a...

    Ditch Witch SK900

We have been waiting on a sk1050 since last March, still don't know when we will have it. I also have a sk900 ordered. I will have 2 used 1050s for sale as soon as I get them delivered! FYI make sure you have the drive controls switched to your preference before you have it delivered, if you...

    Kubota SCL 1000

We actually ordered one, waited a month for it, and then drove 2 hours to pick it up because the local Kubota dealer was not large enough to get one. I think they have the best 36" wide track design on the market and the machine seemed to be quite well designed. But we used it 2 days, and...

    Ditch Witch SK900

We actually prefer the twin drive levers. It is much more precise - true hydraulic controls vs. electric over hydraulic.

    Beautiful spalting

I'd be leaning towards maple as well, but we have milled up some beautiful spalted sycamore. That would be my other vote.

Trying to come up with an production incentive program

Very well said, and I do appreciate the insight. Bid the jobs right, and make sure your guys know you have their back. Encourage teamwork, and do your best to eliminate frustrations on the job!

Costs vs profits (related to billing)

I agree, but I will add another angle to look at small jobs. Small jobs can still be profitable even with lots of equipment. First off, if it requires all of the equipment that is needed on the larger jobs a decent minimum should be required. Then these jobs get scheduled with other larger...

Costs vs profits (related to billing)

I agree with this thought. We have to stay competitive, but we must know what our equipment costs are. I have found that as I have made purchases to increase our efficiency, the hourly rate does go up even if the bid for the job stays the same. Bidding jobs with factoring in new equipment...

    SK3000 attachments

This is our grapple that we have customized and we are custom building these as either mini or fullsize, ASV or bobcat plates. This one is 4' width, and we can build them up to 6'. We have the rope bollard on top, and it is an awesome combination rake/grapple. It is heavy, but it is very...

Let us know what you come up with! That is quite the animal! Does it come with a full size attachment plate or the mini attachment plate?

Whats a Work Comp company that will deal with a small tree service?

Shop around at several insurance brokers, there are options. Here in MO it is a state run program as well, but the rates are very competitive.

    Lift Advice

We put 1800 hrs on our last SD64 in 3 years, and had very minimal trouble with it. I feel that for what the cost is versus it's capabilities, it is a very good value. And regarding the controls not handling the weather, why would you store a machine that costs that much out in the weather...

    Digital/Virtual Timecard

We use Jobber for time tracking on jobs, but Open Time Clock is what we use for clocking in and out for the day. It is web and app based, and fairly simple to use. Also, my accountant can log in and pull the hours for payroll after I review and approve them.

Silky hayauchi, zubat or ARS/Stihl polesaw

We like the Silky longboy polesaw for working aloft, because of the folding head on the saw that keeps the blade out of the way.

Silky hayauchi, zubat or ARS/Stihl polesaw

The Hayauchi is an awesome saw, and very light, but not half as sturdy as the Hayate. The Hayate will hold up to crew use, the Hayauchi will not.
