    IVY root removal

Greg, I've been using glyphosate for 20 plus years on cut stumps. It works, always. Not diluted, however. Had a gallon of Tordon long ago. Had it stored in the walk in of my chip truck at the time. A bit must have spilled. The smell was obnoxious and took some time to dissipate. Never bought it...

    Another homeowner doozie ...

' No, it's redwood. Needs to be a lot larger to have any value but there has to be a market for it....in the PNW, cedar can sell for $1200/mbf, but that's because it grows here and mills want it.

    Weight of a pine tree

Ryan Murphy just told me he's headed down there to do some training/certification for NATS (North American Training Solutions) . Ryan Cafferky and Mathew Beatty might be doing the same..... It's nice to see phone app's for wood weights, volume etc. I now have two on my phone. But I've used this...

    Weight of a pine tree

What if the trunk has/had little taper, as is common with ponderosa? And what if the moisture content is still high? The bottom 30 feet alone could weigh 4500 lb....

A couple of little uprooted lodgepole pines

A couple small lodgepole pines uprooted in the 10/14 wind storm. Steep driveway meant no crane access. Luckily, there was a well placed pine behind the failures large enough to use for rigging, but kind of small, so we didn't attach the GRCS . Instead, 5-1 mechanical advantage from a set of...

5 minutes to go in the third Q, and Wa Huskies have 552 yards of Offense..No wonder their top ranked defense is bending a bit..... 56-14 carnage is payback that's been brewing for 13 years...

Actually, number 5, up from 10 after dismantling Stanford in every way possible! And by hiring Peterson as head coach, who had done at great job at Boise State... Defense is being emphasized... we're #15 in yards allowed, but the offense is #9 in scoring, Young soph QB Browning actually has a...

Did somebody say Huskies...?/ Oops, wrong coast..... Well, the UW Huskies are back!! Ranked #5, first time in many moons...after destroying Stanford last week 44-6... Did you ever contract climb for somebody who is kind of a hack?

Same here.... By the way, two posts up, the job I was referring to where Terry flashed me (with a picture) was back about 2000 or so...an extremely challenging 54" dbh deodar on a slope, fancy pool on the other side. Tom Ford and I worked the tree together, ziplining and lifting as needed. We...

Did you ever contract climb for somebody who is kind of a hack?

Good thread..... Reminds me of the time I met Terry while doing a bid... Personable enough fella, we chatted briefly, and when he handed me his card, I looked at it and said one word (from the card) with a polite questioning tone, " topping?" A few months later, he called me and wanted to...

    negative rigging

I'll answer for Reg, who replied elsewhere that his groundie was being overly cautious at first and had too many wraps on those first couple pieces. Notice the lower, heavier ones were lowered far more smoothly....

    negative rigging

Since the center of mass will fall the same amount regardless of where the load is tied, there's no need to tie the section close to the end being cut.

    Yet again, more Lombardy Poplars.....

We, with a little help from the grapple trucker, got 99.5% of the chain link removed. He also pulled the fence posts. One post came out but left the cement behind...as the tree had grown around it. It's marked so Robert will know to avoid it....
