Late to this thread... Just want to express some appreciation for the share (that goes for everyone here with a similar experience) Your description of the sequence of events leading to the gouge moment is clear. Also, sharing the state of mind when it happened. I have gleaned a lot of valuable...
It will be a stump by this afternoon. Tom, your spot on. Its fractured through and through. I'm hoping there will be a picture. The Arborist doing the removal, when we talked yesterday, described it as decimated. Had it been a different species like a pine, I bet it would be in pieces on the...
Years ago,
We had a guy come out with his Poulan pro, gauntlet gloves and goggles, right in the middle of our active work zone. After we shut down and asked him to step back politely, so we could finish, He argued that he helped as "part of the crew" and tried refusing a big portion of the...
Lee Payne is our head of security and customer service.... he has immersed himself in all of the wildlife around here. he meticulously documents every species of bird spotted on the property too. I get to help him set cameras and boxes when needed. Really neat person that I'm glad to know.
oh man! cool thread. I am going to get with our wildlife nut and have him send me photos. Our coolest cam is focused on an owl box that I installed last year. Those, and the river otters we have. we also have deer; fox; racoons; coyotes (occasionally) and the other assortment of wildlife. just...

I have learned more here than anywhere, when it comes to real life tree care. I've also learned so much about life here too. This is an amazing folks community, of which I'm lucky to have stumbled upon.
@Matais, we called it the "super swing" so many fun times. When I first stated climbing. My "calculated risks" weren't so calculated.
After I became a Dad, much more calculated, in fact, it was my motivation to be safe...

The scariest thing I read was... "I have gotten away with this before" Damnit man, me too. Just wonder how close a lot of us were to being in your situation. Such a scary thing to happen. Wish you a speedy recovery. Now for some levity...
worse thing to happen to me in a silver maple was this...
