This is genius! There has been so many times where I just toss my gear, phone, and camera into my pack and then a moment later I realize that I have two powerful magnets sitting next to my memory cards. I havent lost my cards yet but my camera's autofocus isnt really working any more and I fear...
Richard, I love the way you think. :bailando:
You guys have inspired me to check out a local tree company and at the very least get some of my questions answered. (y)
 Haha
Jrgray, awesome tip though to always have a cell handy. One time I was lanyarded to the tree and untied my anchor to avoid a dead branch. I thought it was safe to drop since it was run through my grigri but I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the rope was pulling through and I...
Here is a picture from the RR website. SO AWESOME!
Cervi recommended hanging Christmas lights, that is a darn good idea! I am definitely interested to hear what Tom's tricks are to keep busy during the frigid months.
All of my paid work has been "gruesome" and "grounded"
But I did some training at Rescue Resources' main facility and it was EPIC! I loved every minute of it. One day we were doing confined space training in the pouring rain and my cheek muscles were exhausted from the giant smile I had...
Hahaha, I hope there was no offense taken! I frequently visit the Job Finder section of TreeBuzz and have noticed that most of the gentlemen are looking for an employer because "there is not enough work in the area" and that this fluctuates with the seasons. I assume the off-season in Minnesota...
Treehumper thanks for all of the links! I totally understand what you mean when you say climbing is a means to an end. I guess I am just really curious what jobs exist that allow me to use my current skillset along with my passion for climbing.
Oldoakman, ha! It is funny that you say that. I...
I am looking for ideas of jobs that require climbing but have nothing to do with arborist work. Although I would LOVE to get paid to climb trees all day and work outside in the elements I am hoping to find a climbing related job with more stability.
I have come up with the following:
Wind...
Thanks Adkpk. I did need a confidence boost! I was playing around alot with the eye&eye's that gmcttr let me borrow and I admit that I enjoy the lack of teeth and the lack of what those teeth may do to my rope.
Monkeylove, two years ago I found myself stuck climbing with the protection of a...
OK, OK, ok. Haha. I am an idiot for arguing with you guys about something that you all have WAY more experience doing than me. I will try not to be so stubbern:X3:
I got a LOT of info to sort through in this thread so hopefully I will have time tonight to pull out all of my gear and figure out...
Apparently rock and ice climbing has muddied up my perception of what is safe, haha.
I understand why I need to use a hitch above the ascender if I am tying directly to it. And I know the 7mm cord will work perfect since it bites hard (I dont need it for descending) which is why I will start...
Aha! So what you are saying is that I should NOT clump all cords and eye2eyes in the same category. That would be like trying to use a grigri made for 11mm rope on a 5mm rope. A cord made to work on an 11mm line wont work on a 9mm line.
Why are hitches much more "dependable" when I have never had the grigri fail?
I am not trying to be difficult, I ask because I am trying to educate myself. Maybe I am doing something wrong but here are a few scenerios where a hitch has failed me but grigri worked flawlessly: yoyo on an 8.4mm...
I laughed out loud haha.
Crazy Jimmy I still have the wrench and live in Chaska on the west side of the cities.
Reed, I tried all your eye to eyes on the 9mm but they just dont bite. I tested an old 7mm rock climbing cord which bit hard but doesnt release without a lot of muscle. I wonder if...
