Thanks!!!
I have pondered limbwalking it long before our neighbor contacted us but I decided it would not be safe. But I am tempted every day so maybe it is a good thing that they will be removing it, haha.
Haha! I grew up on a farm eating steak and hamburgers everday and hunting rabbits and squirrels in my freetime. The nutritional data and evolutionary makeup of the human digestive system (herbivorous) was so overwhelming that I had to make it a lifestyle choice. If you ever visit MN I will cook...
Awesome. I am glad that this way of thinking isnt totally crazy. I will try to get some pictures uploaded. Who knows, maybe you guys will call me insane for caring so much or maybe when I investigate closer I will realize that my neighbor has reasons to be worried about it.
She is "threatening...
Yes, my tree is leaning against her tree and bending it slightly.
And actually one of the ladies was an employee (or the owner) of JB Haines Tree Service here in the cities. I suppose I posted this question with the hope that she might be on treebuzz or some of the MN climbers on this forum...
My wife and I just bought a townhome in Maplewood, MN with a large pond surrounded by many beautiful trees. This area is kept "wild" (no pruning, no mowing, and lots of wild animals live there) and is one of the big reasons why we bought our home. HOWEVER!!! This morning as I was making some...
Hey guys! When I visited the inlaws with my wife last week I decided to run away for a night and go tree camping in one of the local forests. I found the forest via Google Maps and was pleasantly surprised by the rolling hills when I arrived. The trees along the river were some of the biggest I...
My #1 goal for 2016 was to go tree camping in a redwood... but then my wife got pregnant. So although I don't see myself climbing a redwood this year I would love to get information on the subject since I also hate the idea of "paying a guide 600$ a day/night to climb with newbies".
Thanks guys. I am convinced that I need to invest some money into more autolockers. It just sucks that they are so darn expensive. One hour of work equals one carabiner, yuck!
Haha, ya... I don't know if many arborists climb with non-locking biners hanging off their harness but I have like 10,000 non-lockers so I usually bring a bunch into the canopy with me just for hanging stuff off of other stuff when tree camping.
On my last trip I lended (lent?) a bunch of gear...
Treelogic and Moss, if this is indeed an "older cottonwood" then how freaking old is the cottonwood in my local woods that has chunks of bark that are thicker than my arm?
Tuebor, FANTASTIC! I have never heard of a short/harness combo before! I love it! And thank you for sharing a picture of your gear setup. I am quite curious to see real arborist's light-weight gear systems. I know that pretty much everyone on this forum would agree that the last place to cut...
Moss, I totally understand where you are coming from about the ultraminamalist risks. For some reason, I am fascinated by alpine style climbing (simple 45L pack filled with enough clothes, tent, sleeping bag, food, AND climbing gear to ascend a mountain). That is usually my goal but it has...
Monkeylove, thanks for the heads up. I don't own any DMM stuff but that is good to know!
Nish, I would like to see that video. You can borrow my camera to film yourself doing it ;)
Papadirk, the Bat Hammock is SWEET. It feels so secure. I thought I would miss the portaledge but I actually...
Well! I am excited to say that I finally figured out the perfect tree camping gear list for 95% of the trees in Minnesota.
