    Mosquito applications

You can make amazing progress by just policing an area for items holding water. A bottle water cap provides sufficient water volume to breed mosquitoes. Fun fact: Mosquitoes fly a total of approximately 100 yards in their life. Eliminate standing water within a 100 yard radius and you've...

    Too Cool For School...

I had a short discussion years ago with a climbing arborist who expressed that it was beneath them to use a provided Wraptor to access the tree. I made it clear to them that they were the only person on the site who gave a rats backside as to how they got up into the tree to work, but that we...

The linked article states they begin producing cones sometime between their 15 & 20th year. http://arnoldia.arboretum.harvard.edu/pdf/articles/1968-28--metasequoia-after-twenty-years-in-cultivation.pdf

Perhaps a better way to explain the measurement is that the support cable should be placed approximately 2/3 of the distance between the union being supported, and the top of the tree. This means you may place the lower part of your measurement 2 feet, 10 feet or 40 feet above the ground...

    Galaxies Edge at Disney world

Parkinsonia aculeata (Jerusalem Thorn) It used to be on the 50 tree ID list that candidates sitting for the Certified Arborist in Florida were expected to be able to identify, back when you had to look at a hunk of branch and identify genus and species.

    Sold - Wraptor for sale

Don’t be surprised if as soon as you sell it, you get invited to bid on a bunch of lucrative assignments in sites where you can’t get a lift. Life is like that.

    What's up w/this Post Oak?

It's also important to consider residual risk. If you remove part of or all of the subject tree, the others will now be exposed to greater wind and snow loads than have been previously experienced. Are the trees remaining after you do the work you're considering, going to be better off, or...

    What's up w/this Post Oak?

All the surrounding trees look damaged as well. Was there a focused wind event or snowstorm that overloaded and broke out the tops of so many of the trees in that area?

I upcycle liquid laundry detergent dispenser containers, the ones with the little push button to dispense the detergent. When cleaned and refilled with water and set on the tailgate with a bar of soap and a roll of paper towels, they make a very effective, and free, hand washing station.

What would you do? I'm a rec climber and want to KEEP my healthy ash tree...

If you're going to remove the Ash right away, then wait to plant a new one, if you're going to site the new tree within the fall zone of the one you're taking out. Above all, do not plant a replacement tree in that crappy little excuse of a tree lawn where the Ash is currently sited. Do...

I would beg to differ on the ownership of street trees. The property owner may well own that property. A quick look at at the property appraisers website in your county will show you the metes and bounds of the property. In most of the cases I've seen, the property owner owns street trees...

    Removing soil after airspading

Think of how a surgical patient is draped in proximity to the incision site. I don't especially try to blow the dirt in any direction. I focus on trying to excavate the targeted material. A five foot wide band of fabric around the area being excavated is sufficient to catch nearly all the...
