    Climbing pine with spurs?

As you may have guessed, I am a total rookie, purely recreational climber about to do a tiny bit of "tree work". But I sure appreciate everyone's support. I'm sure you pros have all been there and done that. No time like the present to learn something new. I will do my best and report back. :)

    Climbing pine with spurs?

Yes, I've got many years as an electrician in my checkered past. No problem working it hot, but I'll actually disconnect/isolate it at the base first. Here is what I'm working with as far as getting a line in. It's a loblolly that is about 100' tall.

    Climbing pine with spurs?

He paid good money for a picker and an electrician. Did it while I was out of town. Didn't want a fight with a neighbor, but the dickhead moved out last week. Happy day! I think something like this will work just fine if I can't get a line in the tree. And I've been wanting to try something...

    Climbing pine with spurs?

My bottom branch is about 70 feet up. :) But based on the answers here, I'll try and find a path through the brush or climb a nearby tree and shoot a line over with my air cannon. It's just a huge jungle in my back yard.

    Climbing pine with spurs?

We have a huge pine I need to climb. It's on a fence line and surrounded by trees. Almost impossible to to get a rope into. I need to climb it to remove a light that my asshole neighbor put up before moving. Yes, he put it in my tree...good riddance. For one short climb, will spurs cause...

    Bug bites

Maybe you have fleas. Those were by far the most common biting Insect I encountered in Southern California. :-)

    Bug bites

Spider bites are extremely rare. Baby spider bites are literally impossible. My guess is that it is something else, especially since you say you get bitten "all the time". Or crushing one on your skin (no bite) causes a reaction. Start there, and you may find an answer to the real question...

    Bug bites

Are you sure they are spiders? I've spent my life in the woods, including many months in remote camps in CA, LA, AL, and SC. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been bitten by a spider.

    Tying climb lines together

Anyone use a butterfly bend to join two ropes? I learned two overhand knots for rock climbing, but wonder if butterfly would be easier to untie and about as useful for trees.

Got that sickening call no one ever wants to get.

That's a 39 mph collision with the earth! Congrats on him not being terribly injured or killed.

What happens to that wood? Incredible firewood mixed with other hardwoods. Any commercial value as lumber in your area?

Challenges of diet for day workers who overwork

Do you actually have a problem sleeping after a large meal in the evening (I have no issue with this)? If bulk in your stomach is a problem, concentrate on highest calorie per pound foods. Athletically/health-wise, the body does just fine with one very large meal per day.

    Hilarious elderly neighbor

I put in another hour or so. She let me slide. :) Another Mary Catherine story: We had some new neighbors move into the hood last year. To put it gently, we are on opposite poles regarding local politics, and pretty much everything else. They invited Mary Catherine and us (basically everyone...

    Hilarious elderly neighbor

I fell a small tree on our property line yesterday. Also did a ton of cleaning up along the road. I bucked and hauled a fallen branch in my 87 year old neighbor's yard while I was there. She's a retired cardiac nurse. She knew I just got over Covid. It was extremely hot and humid, and she...

“Unusual Birds” & Trees in your area ?

Yes, a very different thing that they do that is loud. I've also had them fly up off the ground and out of a heavy pine woods hedgerow without making almost any noise at all. This can be a very "exciting" experience when they suddenly pass in front of your face when you are hiking into the deer...
