    Structural pruning

I would let it develop a bit more. It’s tiny without much foliage to produce food and few pruning options. Most people will advocate to remove or reduce one of the leaders which is also a good plan

Bids Won vs Lost | A discussion on bidding and quoting

I figured less than a week is good, 1 day or less is going to be my new goal. It’s surprising to me that people don’t shop around- they get one quote and go with them. I had another call last week where I scheduled a site visit for the next day but then got a callback saying they had immediately...

    Paper based

I’ve not been busy enough to struggle with scheduling yet, but I can see how just a few busy days and a few extra calls could create a real challenge. I’m hoping to use this entry time to smooth out some of the already obvious issues. Thanks for taking the time to write out that response...

Bids Won vs Lost | A discussion on bidding and quoting

Thanks for the kind words, it helps to vent that one! I understood it as- “my father independently got this other company to do the work and just told me”. Things come around though. Went to a bid today and a $40 shrub job turned into a full day tree job. Im thinking I might need to have a...

@oceans Are you still paper based? I ve been doing paper quotes with generic carbon less forms and they are ok but I’m considering other options. Reading through the archives is helpful!

Bids Won vs Lost | A discussion on bidding and quoting

Bump bump Had a consult setup yesterday and they cancelled just a few hours before the scheduled visit. “My father is taking care of it”. This was a neighbor, basically, and later in the day I hear a saw running. So naturally I take a peak and see another company with their bucket truck on the...

Something about hand stings … usually the worst spot for me, I’d almost prefer to be stung on the face! A wonderful fall day for tree work here. Guyed this maple away from the home. My current mini setup

    Oak decline in central Michigan

Ouch! Hate to hear that Elms are succumbing too. There seems to be a lot of Siberian elm around here that are generally problematic, but I have not noticed any American or red elms. I’m trying to learn up on needlecast diseases in various conifers too, that is something that I’m not well versed...

    Oak decline in central Michigan

That’s helpful information and context and lines up with what I’ve been hearing from locals about the decline of the oaks. I’m in Mecosta County, which Oak wilt has not been reported in, but I’m betting that is simply because no one has sent in a sample.

    Oak decline in central Michigan

Wow the oaks are in major decline around here, especially the red oaks. I found this article that details the complex fairly well https://www.newaygocountymi.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/OakHealth_InNewaygoCo.pdf Does anyone have any additional insights?

Opinions on Bandit 65xp with 25hp

I’ve used a 65 but I can’t recall the engine hp. It was a fine small chipper, clogged a bit too often . Sharp knives and adjusted anvil were more important
