I think luck and Genetics are equally important. Im 59 and been doing tree work all my life. I may be a little slower these day(may be) but im still a top climber where ever im working. It helps to love what you do.
This may be controversial. But give it a try. When attaching your line to a throw line to pull it throu, lots of people, my self included(tell recently) will loop it on its self then tie several half hitches, last one as close to the end as possible.
I now just garth hitch it about a foot from...
You might try cutting sections. Cut long ways above the ground, then down. You'll be left with a piece you could maybe lift with a pv. I did a massive Euc. like that before. I cut the whole thing into squares almost.
Again don't know if this is a trick or not. But I always carry my climbing line in a lines men canvas toolbag on crane jobs. So when the cranes lifting me its secured. I drop it after I position for my first cut.
When I first started climbing trees, we made all our wire core lanyards with cable and 3 strand rope. I still use a 23 ft homemade cabled lanyard 15/16 in. 3 strand Braided splices on each end, for those monster Trees.(haven't used it in several years) You can really whip that beast. I feel as...
I Carrie a 8oz throw ball and a short line on big dia. Crane jobs. I can toss the ball around the trunk and pull a big sling around then attach a shackle.
Don't know if this is a trick or widely used but I've never seen anyone do it.
When pulling up my climbing line for any reason, I'll lay the rope across my lanyard. A few feet on each side. When I let go of it, it flawlessly feeds down. Never hanging up.
Just pulling up one side, letting it...
I don't mind spending money on good equipment, but I like those home depot's cheap pole pruners. The pruners junk. I take it a part use the pruner for a hook and put a corona blade in it. I now have a decent telescopic pole saw. I've never bought one but find them here and there.
Like some others said a wrap around the tree and a Strategic stub for it to go over is the old school Ariel friction device. You can even put a few feet of rope between wraps so she'll run some.
Funny, thinking about it that was maybe my 1st piece of rigging gear. I learn to splice 3 strand early on so I had an eye loop on one side to attach the shackle.
I'll srt up short distances using a RADS but foot lock my rope not bothering with a foot loop. It makes a short ascend quicker and easier. Im sure SRT is adding years to my climbing.
You probably know this but stretching can prevent injurys. I always stretch before work and do some strength training a few times a week.
Preventive maintenance is always more economical then rehabilitation.
I use a polesaw a lot up in the tree when trimming. I buy corona blades and replace them weekly when using them a lot. My hand saw is silky always. And I always have a 21ft silky pole saw for use from the ground. But my go to trimming pole saw is a Jameson pole saw with Corona blade. You can get...
