    What this?

The tool is available in many places; I'm no HomeDepot fan either! $15 = high dollar lol Not jumping anywhere; <3 minutes per tree is not a lot of time, for sure.

    What this?

Spending 5 minutes with a $15 tool might negate the need for a high dollar return trip. "....likely...few roots..." ???? SWAG...

Taking photos up in the tree

Wear a tradeshow lanyard around your neck and keep your phone in there. Many drops happen while pocket fumbling. I keep my iphone on me while climbing; I don't leave the ground without it!

    Elm root destruction

How old is the wall? etc. etc. Too many variables to answer this hypothetical based on a picture. Kneejerk condemnation, or vague verbiage suggesting such, sux.

    Eastern Red Cedar Root System

I had a seminar with Kozlowski back at UW. It ran deep...beautiful dude. Sectoriality, OK; The Vetree folks talk about functional units of vascular pathways, forming columns, sometimes twisted. Yes it's a mystery to me too why some are twisted and some not. I measured a white oak with frothy...

Another non-pro question: How do you pros view the importance of the understory?

Re Ms. Corr, I can't judge her work, but did not find her listed as an ISA Certified Arborist. http://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist/findanarborist In our industry that's not quite past high school.

Another non-pro question: How do you pros view the importance of the understory?

Microstegium (stiltgrass) SEVERELY affects the environment for native groundcovers, ferns, etc. and nonnative hostas for that matter. It's certainly within a city arborist's bailiwick; more so if the city planted it on your property. We can add costs of controlling that to the tree damage...

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

I plan to drive there Thursday night after presenting at https://mahsc.org/classes.html I'll be fresh as a dead daisy, but this year I'm resolved to actually pass the gear check and 'compete'. I guess I'm a junior in the over-65...? See you then--maybe you'll tell me if any vets remain at A-ville.

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

Comp haha not until they have an over-60 category. I was invited to present a hectic half hour of uninhibited heresy in the general session of the conference. Don't hold back, they said. The gloves are off! :bananas::bananas:

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

Of my 34 Dendro stories, most are like diary entries, dramatized real-life reports. Yes I fell from (my own) roof and broke ribs. The client was actually an old bald guy, but Attorney Amber Amarilla fit the tree species, and also tbh I tend to fantasize about women. Codit is my son in some...

Further down it says $2500...? Skimmed it and saw a few typos; my favorite: DISCUSS THE PROCESS OF THREE RISK ASSESSMENTS, as if 2 is not enough? Anyway I wish him well. A rising tide (of profit) floats all boats?

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

To be fair, cities follow formulas about the degree of slope allowed. Looks like they dug away dirt and roots to lessen the slope and the perceived risk of you or anybody falling. Yes, someone could have built a retaining wall instead. Yes I am an off-site arborist and would be glad to...

Openandshut forensic case of arborcide by grading damage. Looks like $3000+ worth of tree.

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

#4 is damning--big root cut. #1 shows scar tissue to the right ~5 years old, and advancing rot to the left. Pry off all dead bark with screwdriver to expose full margin of wound.

    Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

If their work caused your tree to rot and get "unsafe", get the value of the tree appraised, and notify them that you can pursue a small claims court case to recover the loss of your property in the tree. Not only cost of removal, but cost of replacement. Can you post pics of 1 the wounds on...

    Tree appraisal

Yes most times that I am called to testify, whether it is at a trial or at a deposition, that is done via subpoena from the attorney client or the opposing counsel. And btw, subpoenas can be resisted, overall or in part. If you're working in Antarctica, no court is likely to force you to fly...
