Non-arborist w/a question about a dying tree

I think I somehow incorrectly entered Atlanta as where I live, but in truth Atlanta is a very extended metro area. The name of our city is Dunwoody. It had an Atlanta address when we first moved here, as an unincorporated area of DeKalb County. But not long after it was voted in to become its own little city. We thought that was so great, living in a brand new city with so many high hopes for all that could be done now that it wasn't controlled by big city & county governments. Anyway, I need to change that part of my profile.

....Life is full of compromises. Certainly there are more tree-friendly sidewalk options, but they are almost certainly more expensive than concrete. And of course taxpayers would complain if the city routinely went that route.

...
Just the sidewalk is probably cheaper to go with the "standard". However, sidewalk + tree removal is probably not cheaper. Add in new tree planting and you are a lot more expensive. And that is not accounting for the lost environmental services the city loses when they remove a mature tree (primarily storm water retention from a simply financial standpoint...)

Went on so long I missed the last 2 posts before responding. I'd already been to your site, Guy, & intended to call tomorrow! But, no, in this case they didn't reduce the steepness of the slope at all, but increased it by mounding the dirt up even more above the sidewalk. All I thought was that it wasn't necessary to dig out so far into the slope, period. They had more than enough room already. The photo of the bark on the Muehlenbergii in your document looks remarkably like that on our poor maple! I only started reading your story, but have to ask: is it partly fiction, or did you really fall off a roof??!! Hopefully I'll tty tomorrow.
Of my 34 Dendro stories, most are like diary entries, dramatized real-life reports.
Yes I fell from (my own) roof and broke ribs. The client was actually an old bald guy, but Attorney Amber Amarilla fit the tree species, and also tbh I tend to fantasize about women. Codit is my son in some episodes, but usually he's just the other half of me that I converse with. The rest was pretty much as it happened.

I'd be interested in knowing if a nonarborist can figure out the story.

Comp haha not until they have an over-60 category.

I was invited to present a hectic half hour of uninhibited heresy in the general session of the conference. Don't hold back, they said. The gloves are off! :bananas::bananas:

Geezers err a... Legends is the over 40 open that is divided into 5 year age classes. I move to my freshman year in the next age class this year.

I plan to drive there Thursday night after presenting at https://mahsc.org/classes.html

I'll be fresh as a dead daisy, but this year I'm resolved to actually pass the gear check and 'compete'. I guess I'm a junior in the over-65...?
See you then--maybe you'll tell me if any vets remain at A-ville.
