    Equipment Hauler

A quick image of my trailer tonight. Some stuff is just thrown in, but you get the gist. Currently loaded up is 12 4X8mats, bobcat 100, bmg and scoops, bmg rake, shelving for saws climbing/rigging gear, polesaw and axe storage on the wall and a workbench with vise in the front for saw...

    Equipment Hauler

I dont know how many mats you have, but my mt100 can handle 12 mats easily with forks. Going up and down ramps, you'll likely want to wrap them with a tie down strap or build a rack to have them in, to prevent the mats from sliding. Have you considered an enclosed trailer? I use an enclosed...

    Question for you Rebuild gurus

If it wont come out fairly easily, try finding a solid dowel that will fit inside of the alignment sleeve snuggly. This should prevent deforming the shape of the sleeve if gripped with pliers.

    Today....

This sounds very similar to my crane operator. We typically run 14' nylon slings but otherwise the same. My op doesn't mind the boom in the brush a little as long as we are watching his LMI cable closely. He'll boom up and cable down for clearance once the pic is off.

    mini grapples.

I did exactly that with that cheap one. And a towing receiver. I'd been spoiled with those options on my previous grapple.

    mini grapples.

Are these out now, or coming out soon? I'd love to continue to support BMG. I operated a knock around as my only grapple for about 5 years. These days I don't chip, everything goes in a grapple truck. So my knock around is primarily used for narrow paths and the scoops. Your comment on...

    mini grapples.

In looking those up, I see that it only has one cylinder. Does it seem to have enough squeeze? Both of the ones that i showed have two cylinders. How long have you been running that one? Any issues?

Skylining micro-chipper into forested work site...ideas.

Makes sense. My crane operator has a 4hr minimum port to port at $750 for a 50t. It makes it worth calling him in for trees that can be done within an hour for zero ground impact.

    mini grapples.

I considered that, it's just has too many flaws in the build. The grapple shown that should be heavier duty is actually 50lbs lighter, according to online specs.

    mini grapples.

To date I've only tried this style and the knock around bmg. I might like that style as well, but the one I showed does a really good job of plowing brush into a pile. Especially if it's spread out during storm work or a felling operation. I can rake nearly as good with this grapple as the...

    Stump clean up efficiency

I thought I'd share pics of the stumps I did today. I'm really thinking the only way to be efficient on large stumps in open areas is a full size skidsteer/tractor which I do not have. The top pic is a red Oak, somewhere around 36" where we felled it. The 2nd pic is a roughly 42-48"...

    mini grapples.

Who here runs a grapple rake style grapple for a mini skidsteer? What brand do you have? Pros and cons? I bought a cheap one just to see if I liked it. It works great for my business 85-90% of the time. I also have a BMG for when it won't work or if the BMG will do a certain job better...

    Stump clean up efficiency

That's what I did on the stumps for today. It's a learning curve like when I started bidding removals and pruning. These stumps I gave them the price I normally would have for digging out and filling with dirt, but just for backfilling with grindings and hauling off the excess. Then an...

Adapter for Avant to skid loader or mini?

I wouldn't be concerned with losing too much capacity by adding an adapter to use mini skid attachments. The reason being is the mini attachments are built for a smaller machine to operate them. Using your machine at full capacity with a mini attachment would likely damage the attachment...

    Stump clean up efficiency

I can't say that I feel particularly good about it. It gets the job done and is better than a shovel and wheelbarrow for sure. It may also be that I just need to raise my rate for this service and accept that it is a time draw. As it is, I do not currently make the same per hour as I...

    Stump clean up efficiency

I priced them today. The power rake attachment is $380 and the Kombi is $550 plus tax. I can definitely see where they'd work well for a smaller stump or limited equipment access. I have a 6' BMG rake followed up by a backpack blower. I'll probably get one of those eventually, but...

    Stump clean up efficiency

I've always steered away from this due to not being able to haul a grinder in my current setup. This means a separate trip and the extra time on site. That said with now doing clean up, I'm making that separate trip regardless. Its something to think about. On the other hand, I have a...

Skylining micro-chipper into forested work site...ideas.

A video comes to mind of the DMM hubs when they first came out. Possibly still in the prototype phase. The Keanu and a larger version (I forget the name) That may be what your thinking of.

Skylining micro-chipper into forested work site...ideas.

Without knowing the terrain, 75' is a fairly short distance. A 50ton crane can reach 90' horizontal. Can you just have a crane on site? I'm assuming with the use of such a small chipper that the amount of debris could be chipped during the cranes minimum? Or just hoist the brush out and...

Grapple - anybody have an Avant's grapple?

Have you looked into the ditch witch Zahn? It doesn't have as impressive lift capacity as the bigger mini skids, but it is articulated and has wheels for less turf damage. I've seen videos of them run with duallies and foam filled for higher capacity. I can't speak for each mini skid, but...
