Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

As Reach said it's one of Stihl's chain grinders(I don't speak German lol). I have one here, it's one of the items I bought in my researching of sharpening. First thing I did to it was to add a foot pedal to it to control the vise, the way it operates I was not expecting( I got some experience...

Problem insects to look out for when disturbing wood piles

Nice. Back in my truck driving days I hauled a lot of steel out of Detroit, the shop was in Melvindale.

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

It's a minor point, but it obviously made a huge difference. Experience is one way to learn, but a while back I decided I wanted to learn all I could about sharpening, it was an expensive yr(another way to learn, spend money lol). I bought a few different grinders both round and square, and...

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

Okay, just wanted to be sure, no reason to argue on something we both agree on. Now back to arguing . I've seen many chains that were sharpened improperly because the file was held too low even though it was the proper size. Many times when working in frozen wood I'll run a larger size...

Problem insects to look out for when disturbing wood piles

Pretty sure it's a blue racer, it sure tore out of there after the boy let it go. Of course it ran right under the tractor, and I was a little hesitant to move it as I don't kill any snakes here. Same chizilbit from the other forums?

So it's your fault we have mosquitoes here lol. I'm east of GR myself, where you at.

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

Okay, just to be sure I'm following what you're saying, are you talking about the top plate angle, or the tilt of the file. A 10 degree top plate angle is utilized in milling chains, and most other chains are 25-30 degrees. As for the tilting of the file(not parallel to the top plate), 10...

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

Never seen 10%, not that I doubt something could have. Lots has happened I'm not aware of, heck, I've never seen it called for on the stihl chain, but the picture is right there lol. As I like to say when I learn something new, "I'm still alive" :). What type of chain?

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

If so, that's way off, but also what I thought he meant since he mentioned it effecting the gullet. Most times I do another step to file/grind the gullet when a chain is new, when it gets back a bit the file/grinder will remove it, at least in the case of round filing/grinding. According to the...

Sharpening at 10 degree angle to bar?

Exactly. Not that we can't modify/tune them, and we should. That's what most guys do. Many grinders will not do the 10 degrees. The husky roller guides have the 10 degrees built in, that's why they have arrows on them telling which way it should be pointed...

Stihl ms 261 c is there a difference?

I don't like my stihls, that's why they're getting the call on the nasty pines :p. Hope all is well out your way.

Stihl ms 261 c is there a difference?

That's not a long bar for a 70cc saw. They actually updated the case since they came out, adding to the weight. I've had many of them myself, just ran the one I currently own yesterday with a 32" in white pine and it did great(has an aftermarket muffler cover). This one I bought off a friend in...

Stihl ms 261 c is there a difference?

I've found their covers to be more prone to clog, not less. A lot of the weight has been removed from the cases, hence the reason many of the 462's are cracking at the bar studs when running longer bars.

Problem insects to look out for when disturbing wood piles

Found a shrew and this guy the other day, but bees are all I'm concerned with. We have fire ants here in Michigan and you don't want to disturb them, but they have easy to see/avoid mounds so they have never been a problem. Permethrin is good for keeping ticks off you, but I'm a minimalist when...

Cutting big wood with 20" bar

I use it often as my tractor will only lift pieces that are under 1100lbs or to get rounds that are too big around to fit into the buck, then I can lift them onto the splitter. For the most part though, if I can't lift it onto the splitter it's too big as it will tip the splitter(I only split...
