I've seen that video a few times, it's gotten the guy who made it in the first place in trouble with NATE(National Association of Tower Erecters) as well as OSHA. Free climbing isn't allowed, hasn't been for many years. At one point, there was an argument for allowing free climbing because the...
Re: \"Small\" Knuckleboom
Whoops, guess I should've told what my buddy does. I agree, an under cdl knuckleboom would be way too small for pretty much any sort of tree work.
My buddy does mostly landscaping with a side of pool care. He'd like to be able to load and unload supersacks of...
\"Small\" Knuckleboom
Question for the Knuck Cult from a friend of mine. He's been looking into smaller crane units, along the utility crane lines. I personally find those kind of limited unless you're going into CDL range, and thats a specific my buddy is trying to avoid.
He'd like enough...
Sheesh, isn't the mind a strange thing. Woke up out of a dead sleep laughing hard enough to wake my wife. The dream was an infomercial, starring a cross between John Wayne and Billie Mays, hawking my cantilevered trimmer creation as the "Long Arm of the Lawn"
Nice! I always love new inventions and methods.
Watching the video made me think about the possibility of designing a setup using a camera jib crane
I'd want to make it easy to adjust distance, probably something like variable length boom arm for both load and counterweight. Mounting the...
One thing I'd suggest is to pick up a medicine mini-fridge. There's a few designed around insulin that would probably work out nicely for the epipen.
This looks like the updated version of the one that my father used to carry his supplies around...
Archdruid,
there's a few semi trailers that'd work for side dump, just need to find one of these mfg's willing to turn it into a truck bed rather than a trailer.
I like this one, they even show off the ability to dump while driving by.

Well, you already have the compressor there, you could go with a vacuum transfer item, such as a line vac from exair.
The size of the nozzle needed would depend on the mulch you're putting in the hole, but I think a 2" would probably work out nicely. A 2" line vac runs about $320 in...
I wouldn't use the stitched eye this way. When you put weight on it, the bridge rigging plate is going to put stress unevenly on the splice, particularly on the free end and try to cam the free end away from the line. Seems like a situation designed to peel apart the stitching on the splice.
Interesting idea. I wish I still had access to a machine shop, I'd love to try and build one.
Might also be able to speed things up a little by integrating a hog ring pliers to secure the loops.
I can't vouch for any of the programs yet, but if you're taking an iPad into the field the Lifeproof case is damn near the best I can find out there. Not exactly cheap at around $100-120, but I think I'd rather buy a tough kick-butt case than toss that money on an extended "warranty" that...
Dang, nice job. I think this is the first time I've seen a tree hanging from a tower crane. Looks like a Liebherr MK series to me. I've drooled over them before, always told myself that I'll buy one when I win the lottery.
The big model, the MK110, is pretty darned impressive. Mfg specs...
I'm not sure if they're still producing the MAT-3, but here's the company that used to be MAT-3, http://www.buckettruckrepair.com/
I'll try to remember to ask about it next time I'm picking up parts.
Dayum man, 70 saws? That's crazy. If you figure an average of $500 a saw, that's $35,000. Was this all done at the yard? If so, I think it's time to invest in a parking building with alarms. I would rather spend $35k putting up a garage than having a chance of replacing saws yet again...
wyo, 2" is cheating? You'd love my learner loop then, 4" diameter fire hose about 35' long. I made clamps from scrap steel to sandwich the fire hose on either end and provide a place to anchor the loop.
Put it between two trucks with moderate tension and it feels like a balance beam.
here's an atv trailer with the floating tandem axle. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200311375_200311375
I've also see them from time to time at the local Fleet Farm. Can't vouch for capability yet, but once I'm needing a cart for behind the atv (soon-ish, projects in the...
Rofl, ah yes, "free" firewood. It's gotten to the point where it surprises me when I check out a Free Firewood link and the tree is down, let alone cut up.
Heck, I've even seen the free firewood advert where they want the taker to be insured as well.
Ladders definitely have their place, though I prefer not to use them much myself.
On the other hand, I have sometimes daydreamed about a short length of ladder with a hook on the end, especially after seeing this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgXprRCPlnc
Might be useful once in a...
