Removing a big maple that has been topped

I removed the tree I'm standing at yesterday, these maples were topped many years ago. There is no main lead, rather multiple leads growing out the side of where it was topped. And of course there is a cavity where it was topped. There are a lot of holes and rot from previous limb removals...

    Dynamic rigging ropes

I just like working with 1/2" rope. I really try not to get into the big stuff, I'm a small outfit and if I cant get it out with 1/2" rope then its probably not a job for me. I had my 362 with a 28" bar up on the spar with me today chunking out a big 40" DBH maple. I'm getting too old for that...

    Dynamic rigging ropes

1/2" Yale Ploydydne in hand. Testing wed. Doing one of those "favor" trees for a friend. He's a desk jockey, and he's running ropes. Not much at risk, just some arb's to try and not destroy. I'll run it through a Thundersling and take control once he makes the catch. This is exactly why I...

    Epic VA Treemek Build

The guy I use sometimes, has 8' high sides on the back, he puts the entire tree right in the back and hauls it away. One truck, one man, full removal operation, pretty slick. I think his truck is 80,000GVW. The machine is amazing and what a time saver, I bet you're pretty excited, I know I would...

    One ton opinions

I have a 2016 Chevy 2500, extended cab with 6.0 gas, 9,000GVW, Truck Craft Dump insert (lighter than most inserts) with chip sides. 11-12mpg average. I removed the rear seat and made a shelf, with storage above and below. It is just used for the business. I keep all my gear (except saws) in the...

My take on the DOT requirements after today.

Looking into this a little farther, my truck is registered for 9,000#. My chipper and sawmill both weigh about 3,000#, so that falls well below the 17,000 limit. However my dump trailer and equipment trailer are registered for 10,000#. So according to what you are saying whenever I haul my dump...

My take on the DOT requirements after today.

Reading through this and being from Pa has me a little concerned. I see the DOT sting opps pretty regular, mostly with tractor trailers and triaxles, didn't think they messed with the little guys. Pulls wool over my eyes. So if my truck has a registered 10,000# GVW I can only legally haul a...

    Dynamic rigging ropes

That looks like what I'm looking for, 4 times the stretch of stable braid. Thanks.

    Dynamic rigging ropes

I currently use 1/2" sta set and 1/2" stable braid and two 3 strand for dirty work. Kinda thinking a more dynamic rope would be easier on equipment and me when the groundie pulls an extra wrap on the port a wrap and shouldn't have. I think for most situations when there is no lifting or pulling...

    Replacing rope bridge

Wanting to replace the rope bridge on my Buckingham Rebellion saddle. It still looks fine, but better to do it before it looks bad. Any suggestions? I have some short pieces of Tachyon, will that work or get something better? Thanks, Mike

    Akimbo, Bulldog or Rope Runner

What rope you running? Sounds like you like it better than the HH2? I'm just a small outfit and I'm not climbing day in and day out. I inspect my gear religiously and don't hesitate replacing gear that even looks slightly off kilter. But that's definitely good advice.

    Akimbo, Bulldog or Rope Runner

Yeah I'm the lazy guy that keeps the HH2 on the rope all the time. Every now and then I have to adjust the hitch cord and I replace it once a year. I have 3 years with the HH2 and really cant complain. I guess a lot of it is just my nature to try and improve things, even if they aint broke, LOL...

    Akimbo, Bulldog or Rope Runner

I've been climbing for three years now on a HH2. Climb almost 100% SRT. Almost bought a RR a year or so ago, but seemed kinda tricky to attach midline with small parts that could be dropped. Then I heard buzz that a new and improved version was coming out. Well its still not here. I'm tired of...
