    I hate bucket trucks.

I loved buckets for utility work. I've been in 3 failed buckets, all rentals. An actuator was the first one but i was close enough to the trunk to climb down and only 6ft off ground. The second was a blown hose to the upper controls. My off sider had to lower me down with the ground controls...

    Self Rescue from Bucket Truck

In Australia it's mandatory for all buckets to have an edd ( emergency descent device) a plastic box that when the pin is pulled it releases a rope with a descended attached. Just clip your harness in and away you go. Escape in no time.

    Cab-Over Bucket Truck

While I worked in Australia all the trucks were cab over. I live in Canada now and it's the opposite. Cab overs are the way to go. We had on average an hour's drive to the job site and once there it was tight streets, driveways and steep hills. ( traveling line clearance) didn't have any dramas...

    You break/cut you buy?

When i was a leading hand i told every new guy that each time we move the truck i want him to do a walk around and count all the tools , whether it be rakes or saws. If they stayed long enough i would graduate them to the blowpack. They would have to learn the blowpack and maintain it. After i...

    Who's a self taught climber?

I also agree that finding a mentor is the way to go to, the guys i work with seem to be a bit reluctant to answer some of my questions but i am the new guy there. So it's Rec climbing and reading for me until i can pick there brains a bit.

    Who's a self taught climber?

Self directed learning, that is a way better way to describe it. I appreciate everyones feedback and i can definitely see this forum becoming a great learning aid. I have read and own half of the books mentioned above, I really want to check out the working climber DVD set I've heard good things.

    Who's a self taught climber?

Hi new to the Buzz. Just wondering who has taught them selves out there? I have been a utility arborist for 2 years working from a bucket. I have always been interested in climbing but never worked with a company that would teach me to climb. I fell into tree work late at 32 but love it and i...

It sucks a little bit watching co workers just throw there harnesses on in 2 seconds while im sliding...
