Any effective treatments for EAB in a very large, 'somewhat' healthy PA green ash?

Thank you. This 'Jane' called me only a few weeks ago. Based on the conversation we had, and the last time I saw the tree, I am hopeful this very large, dominant tree @ the end of her drive is still in a condition worth saving. I believe this lady is inclined towards some manner of...

Any effective treatments for EAB in a very large, 'somewhat' healthy PA green ash?

I have a lady, Jane B., who consulted w/me about her ash tree. It's an expansive ash (truthfully... green ash... black ash... not sure sorry) about 90-100ft tall, massive crown. The last time I looked onsite was about 2 yrs ago. There was some dead wood, but I would say 'only a little'. All...

    DWT with a Munter hitch

Reading this thread, I went and reviewed Mark's "Let's Talk Rigging", and there's an explanation there about different points of tension along the stem. Recently I had a very dead white oak w/the house not too far away. I backed up my pulling rig w/a secondary line to the tow hitch of my...

    DWT with a Munter hitch

A!!! I was messing w/this over coffee using sthtoopit s__t in my living room, LOL. As I review your photos, I'm thinking I may B able to employ DMM Roller carabiners, sometimes, in place of those micro-pulleys. Between all the micros and Rollers I have, I could damn near lower a forest. Ha...

    DWT with a Munter hitch

I like your 'slipped' Munter. I never tied a slip-stop in a Munter before. Cool:cool:

    DWT with a Munter hitch

Honestly, I do not know the abbr. DWT, ha!! So I went a-searching. I came upon this article... https://tcimag.tcia.org/tree-care/lets-talk-rigging/ and I started reading. After a few paras in, I thought, "Hmmm, this guy really writes well. Seems like a definite force in tree care. Who...

THEFT - ALL 4 of my saws

Dan, I want to talk a little more about my new MS462. So it's a fantastic saw, 100%, no taking that away. But I found a few nit-pick items, ha. The captive bar nuts... it's just more s__t U gotta keep clean. I noticed when replacing the cover, the rear nut wasn't twisting on easily finger...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

I'm not sure I picture what you're saying. I'll try tying it upside down... see what happens. (I'll wait till I'm 80' up  ) And I'm gonna try the MEECHO-A-KAHHHHN, LOL. Interesting you could DROP a wrap. I had to ADD a wrap, because during one of my rec climbs after I did this post...

Does anyone cut the angle cut first, of a conventional notch?

I've also been sketching out the hinge w/an 18" bar before I really cut in with a 25 or 28, when it's gotta be perfect. I'd rather work w/a lightweight saw, and start w/a tiny notch while I correct for level, degree etc., then just deepen those cuts once it's dialed in. Of course I could use a...

Climbing a Redwood! Cali vacation, next week

Glad you were able to "look thru the turns", & thanks! One really welcome feature of the roads I had the pleasure of riding - most turns, you could 'look thru'. There weren't too many totally blind ones. Obv. if U can see there's no one coming the other way U can use more of the road onna...

Climbing a Redwood! Cali vacation, next week

I have nothing but GREAT things to report. Thank God, my time touring CA on a motorcycle, doing this climb with TreeClimbingPlanet, and perhaps most importantly the weather and the ace job United Airlines did getting me there and back... prolly the best vacay of my life. I don't take vacations...

Climbing a Redwood! Cali vacation, next week

That's an interesting take on it. The fact that I am a daily climber/working arborist, I kind of thought that just seeing these massive miracles would be the main thing. Since I climb all a time, I was picturing sittting at the base of one of these redwoods, kind of looking around at the rest...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

Yes, EYE-talian is same, every vowel, no dipthongs. Michoacán is actually easy - not too long. I was just bein' funny. (I'm my own favorite comedian, you know!) US has some slingin' pronunciations for sure. When I moved to PA I soon began calling it 'The Land of the Rolling O's'. When my...

How do you say 'Knut' ? Do you say ka-nutt, or do you say NEWT. Or is it something else? I can't even say the F___ng thng, never mind learn how to tie it  :ROFLMAO: I guess the pronunciation question is better directed at the dude who suggested I try the Mich-a-Koa-Khan :ROFLMAO:

Seeing the forest through the trees…

Don't DO THAT. Is that a current pic of you? You look waaaay young to need 2.0 reading glasses. But eff that, if you do, fine, but don't start using magnification to see distance if you don't need it!! I'm no optham but doesn't that contribute to worsening vision? I have a few sets of...

Climbing a Redwood! Cali vacation, next week

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

Sounds like an Aztec ritual, like from Apocalypto. :ROFLMAO: Siriusly, I will give it a go. Yes, good point on the lanyard. My 10mm Ocean tied in a Schwab has worked out fine on my safety lanyard, but it does tend to bind. I was also thinking of trying the Distel on the lanyard as well. All my...

Distel hitch... Ba da ba ba ba (I'm lovin' it)

Here's a few pics of a recreational climb the other day. I've been working a lot more the past few years so this is 1 of only2 rec lines left installed in the sycamores. The other is a SRT for Texas system climbs. As long as I've been climbing (almost 20 yrs) I can't believe it's taken me...

Does anyone cut the angle cut first, of a conventional notch?

That's a biggie. And even when the saw is cutting fine, the more experienced I get, the more I learn about which pressure, applied where, will keep a cut level, or directed a particular way, etc. I find with my saws, even if I start out level, a little finesse is needed on the handles to keep...
