Using a log grapple as a crane (lifting a standing bole)

I disagree. I'm saying that your operator was unskilled. Log trucks don't kill people. People running those log trucks kill people. You think we need log truck control? I think we need proper training on this technique. It can be done and done safely. Or, if your machine is too small for this...

    Pat lmi cable reel spring

Are you sure it's tight enough? With my old crane anytime we had to redo the lmi wire we woukd wind that all the way back....sometimes took two people to go the last two or 3 cranks. Just something to think about.

I think one major issue is we as a culture have made it so easy for someone to stay home and get assistance.....that working for a living just seams like too much work. Thats the case around here.

Your going to have very little loyalty in the crane rental business. Trust Me! I know your gearing your business towards trees....but setting ac units, post and beam homes, shed, etc...will be a large portion of your business. Make it easy for those customers to hire you. A PDF on your website...

Using a log grapple as a crane (lifting a standing bole)

Tom brings up a good point...use with caution! We do this technique from time to time but its critical that no one is in the danger zone when the lift is happening. Its the same when loading logs onto a log truck...personal need to stand clear. I personally think its a great trick to have in...

    Looking for an elevator

Why is it not in his budget? Because he can not get financing? I only ask because @Jasonk is correct....if he can at all possibly swing the cost of a new one he should. If you buy used....the money you save will quickly be eaten up in down time and repair costs. I tell you...it gets frustrating.

"Disappointment happens when outcomes don't meet expectations" I think that is the major issue with us all right now. We became accustomed to a certain expectations and now their not being met....and we are disappointed. I hate being disappointed!!

When is it time to pack it in and work at Wal-Mart?

But the winning combination is having the equipment to do the removals and skills to do the preservation work....and the knowledge to know the difference.

When is it time to pack it in and work at Wal-Mart?

I disagree in your examples of why you should get out. If your going to loose it all because of an accident, or personal injury then you have not structured your business properly. Many companies survive accidents all the time and are still running their business. I would train your crew, safety...
