Zk-2 rope wrench short video about setup

Derrick - Any concerns about the way the HMS biner is loaded, since it looks fairly crowded along the top "bar" of the biner, maybe placing some of the load too far away from the main spine? Not questioning your setup, as I'm sure you've thought this through already. And I really like that...

Zk-2 rope wrench short video about setup

Nice video Derrick. You explain the particulars of this setup very well - seems to make the whole rig quite a bit more seemless. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

    Trees from a distance

I am feeling warm. If it were Fraxinus, I think the limbs would be straighter in such a young tree. That bark certainly looks like Ulmus parvifolia, but the leaves are too large. Zelkova would be more fastigiate. Just thinking out loud here... I think it's Pistacia atlantica. That's all I got.

    Best tree pruning book?

I'll give a second vote to Gilman's Pruning book. I know everyone doesn't necessarily agree with his approach, but for me, it really "unlocked the mystery" of what happens when you remove live tissue from a tree and how you can do that to achieve certain goals with your pruning. His approach...

    Rope Wrench

Is the sheave's purpose primarily to effect friction, or primarily to maintain the roundness of the climbing line? Those climbing on one of Surveyor's sheaves - what kind of differences do you notice with it? Thanks!

    biolite campstove

That is amazing. One of my lifetime dreams is to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. Seems like this little bugger would be perfect for life on the trail, and would justify the cost. Thanks for posting! I kind of want to get the HomeStove version for my house...

    Footloop out of rope tail?

Those are good ideas. Thanks. However, if I remember correctly, the old picture/post that I've been searching for was a bit more simplistic...something more akin to a clove hitch or cow hitch? It seems like one of those ideas that SingleJack or DSMC comes up with - so simple yet not...

    Footloop out of rope tail?

I remember awhile back seeing a photo someone had where they made a footloop wrapped around a branch/stem from the tail of their climbing line, much like one would use a loop runner girthed around a stem to provide a loop to step into for extra positioning stability. Does anyone know where this...

    Euro Chainsaw Pants

My Husqvarna trousers have had it - the beginnings of a hole are opening up in a not-so-discreet region of the stitching. I've been wearing the $100 Husky versions available through sherrill and treestuff. I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience using the pants available in Europe...

    Doc Watson Passes

89 years old. What a war horse. RIP. He casts a long shadow over American music, and so few are aware of him. One of my favorites is the sad and dark ballad 'Tom Dooley', as well as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W13_yCaSL40 Thanks for posting.

Seeking employment in Philadelphia/S. Jersey area

Good morning treebuzz. I have recently relocated to the Philadelphia area and am looking forward to getting to work in these northern regions. I've been fortunate to have a few good interviews and contacts about employment, mostly thanks to the treebuzz community, and I am hoping that one of...

    RIP Levon

When I was 12 years old, watching CMT on television, I saw him do a cover of Springsteen's "Atlantic City" with just a mandolin and a couple of backup singers. Few songs stick with a fella over 18 years, but that one still gives me shivers...And go figure, I end up marrying a girl from New...

    Airplanes & Gear?

Thanks everybody! So helpful... I had also considered wearing my saddle with all my clickety-clank when I walk through the metal detector (Sir, please place all metal objects in these small plastic bowls BEFORE walking through...Oh, sorry, do you have 6 or 7 extra bowls?), and also trying to...

    Rope bridge...

[ QUOTE ] What if your ring fails...... [/ QUOTE ] FWIW, I have a backup bridge of 8mm polyester cordage (rated 5K lbs.) tied with double fishermans to each of the gold rings on my Sequoia, but that doesn't run through my center DMM attachment ring. When I clip the biner from my climbing...

    Airplanes & Gear?

Hey there treebuzz...I'm flying this weekend on a big ole jet airliner. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations about the most ideal way to transport one's gear while flying. I'm thinking of checking one bag with my rope and handsaw and helmet. (I'm not bringing a chainsaw or heavy rigging...
