Thanks for sharing. That is cool.
Do I see one of the guys on rope wearing a flotation vest of some sort?
That would feel different...sitting in a saddle with a life vest on...I guess that's the oil rig climber's equivalent of 2 points of attachment when operating a saw.
"Well, at least if...
Even thought it is not about trees, I think tree-folk will really enjoy this book I just finished:
Blind Descent by James Tabor
It is about expeditions to explore the deepest "super-caves" on earth, and it is INTENSE. Makes me never, ever want to be a cave diver!
I wish there was more talk...

must have been awesome.

It really was awesome. The tree was a challenging white oak. The temperatures hit the 90's.
The top two were absolute machines. Very skilled, very professional, very fast. I'm sure the judges were splitting hairs on their scores. Number 3 is my...
Many thanks to Boutte Tree! What a great company!
TiersonB, TreeBuzzer and inventor of the RigEm&Roll, and owner of Boutte Tree Inc. went above and beyond for a client yesterday, who happens to be my brother in Atlanta, Georgia, who is responsible for the facilities of a small private...
The BSC at the NATCC was set up as you describe, Norm, I think.
It seems only sensible to set up the secured footlock in a similar way, right? Because that would be a somewhat more difficult rescue as you are dealing with a loaded footlock prussic, as well as coordinating the whole operation...
I'd like to sell my CMI Right Handled Expedition Ascender and CMI Right Foot Ascender to make room for some other gear.
I'm asking $45 for each, or $80 if you want to buy both.
I will pay for shipping, USPS Priority.
They are both used, but in good working condition.
Make me an offer!

Paulownia tomentosa?
[/ QUOTE ]
No... As far as I know, this is the only truly large member of its genus, the rest are ornamentals or medium sized trees at best.

Looking forward to meeting some of you buzzers!
I'll be the miniature (135 lb.) dude in the Davey hard hat at the foot lock.
I've been known to give free high-5's on demand, so keep that in mind...

Rob you should come work with me instead.

Hmmm...That is not a bad idea.
Did you re-supply your party mix yet?
I also need a haircut.
Hey there Buzzards -
Just wanted to see who was going to be at the NATCC this weekend.
I'm volunteering on Gear Inspection and Secured Footlock.
Looking forward to being a part and hopefully meeting some fellow buzzers, so speak up if you're going to be there!

Very cool to see as usual. Thanks.
Just a question out of curiosity and ignorance - it looks like Jared cut a bunch of the outer bark away around his notch and back cuts...is that a logger thing? Does it serve a particular purpose?
Just curious.
Andrew - In all seriousness, I wish you'd start your own tree supply/tree gear brain trust shop, you know in the vein of Sierra Moreno, New Tribe, Anchor Bridge. Your ideas and designs are so cool.
I vote for
"Moss Tree Outfitters"
I'll even pose for your marketing photos...me in all of my...
Thanks Tom.
Good thread/post.
I think the design and use of shackles in saddle bridge applications warrants further discussion. I'd be curious to hold the shackles on my ErgoLite up to the ones on your TreeFlex, as well as those on a Butterfly and see how they compare. Those on your TreeFlex...

Using a screw link or shackle in place of the ring might make it easier to change each piece of cordage. Makes mix/match really customizable.

I still can't wrap my head around the logic of prohibiting screw lock carabiners but allowing shackles. I know that the...
