Rotten silver maple leader fails while I was climbing

Thank you for asking. Taking a walk for therapy in my hood. I have gotten off of my high horse about no narcotics and they are helping me to recover. Off of the walker and feeling generally positive My parents have sent some money to my relief and the clients say they can wait until I am...

Rotten silver maple leader fails while I was climbing

Probably a good point but I was going on autopilot trying to get out from under the drop zone in case other chunks were still hung up. I wasn't thinking much beyond my reptilian brain at that point

Rotten silver maple leader fails while I was climbing

And in case anyone is worried, I got my TreeMotion off before the paramedics could cut it off. Phew. They did cut off my Cardhart pants and favorite sweatshirt

Rotten silver maple leader fails while I was climbing

Well said. My first hospilization was when I was green. Climbed a leaner willow removal and it failed at about 2 feet. Luckily I wasn't tied in back in my early, free climb days with a leather buckstrap and tautline on a snap. I was able to jump free of the tree landing on soft grass next to...

Rotten silver maple leader fails while I was climbing

Tied into a leader buckingham ring to ring friction saver on mrs with obvious decay and critter holes of an ugly silver maple. I have gotten away with similar decaying leads and had expected to be able to load it in compression. While moving in the canopy to set a second tie in, felt the...

    Dealing with growth

Yes, subcontracting correctly is the goal. It would be cheaper to make the climber a sub for when I need him (literally pay for his insurance and stuff). I risk him running off, but I could gain a good ally too. Careful with paying expenses for your sub. When they cause damage at your clients'...

    Face Shield/Safety Glasses

I use Bounty paper towels folded into a headband placed between my helmet and forehead. It keeps the sweat off my glasses and is disposable

    It's the economy dummy!

I bought a new chip truck this spring with 10% down and a significant monthly payment. Problem was that I never got very busy and cash flow has been lower than expected. Maybe your clients are waiting to see changes in the market and sticking with renting cranes for now. Committing to five...

A few rigging questions. Broken rope.

A double bowline will break more easily after a hard pull. Learned that lurking on the Buzz years ago. I prefer to use a friction hitch over a knot. I use a long piece of Beeline to form a five or six wrap Klemheist onto the pull rope. Put a stopper knot behind the hitch if it wants to creep

Tall Cottonwood = scary? Made to top!

You can throw a rope with a throw ball attached to the end to advance your tie in. I wouldn't mess with a throwline while in the tree

    Used chipper shopping

I bought my '02 BC 1400 with 897 hours in 2005. Now at about 2900 hours. I would stretch to buy the newest mid-size chipper they would sell me. Too old or overworked and you won't be trustful of it. Downtime gets expensive
