I bought this stump grinder from Eric. Transaction was smooth and the machine is immaculate. Eric is a trustworthy fellow tree guy. Glad he is posting here on Treebuzz.
For specific questions, I've pointed people to this review from Massachusetts: https://www.mass.gov/doc/paclobutrazol-review-jan-2012pdf/download . PDF attached.
We found the second knife lodged firmly in the chute. Should be running again today, but we'll closely monitor for any new vibrations, etc.
I learned that the guy who removed the broken bolts called a Louisiana witch doctor to burn some chicken bones for us. I appreciated the effort and we...
Really appreciate all the prompt replies. You all make Treebuzz awesome for that. The broken bolts came out fairly easily this morning with some chisel tapping, as suggested in the thread (and we haven't been using grease or anti-seize on them). We found a damaged railroad tie spike 15 feet...
Anyone have experience extracting sheared off bolts from a chipper drum? Two knives broke off, so I've got a total of 10 sheared off grade eight 5/8" bolts to try to extract from the drum on our new Bandit 19xpc.
I've yet to learn what happened, but I suspect someone must have accidentally fed...
We've had fuel line issues on hot summer days with the GM/PSI 4.3L and 5.7L (on 12xp and 15xp, respectively). We've had the 6.2 Fords for only about a year (18xp and 19xpc) and so far no engine problems that I can recall.
We're looking into a knuckle boom crane. We've been impressed by our buddy's Palfinger 65002 with the Mecanil grapple saw but our Altec dealer offers the Effer with the GMT grapple saws. Thoughts on the comparison? Anyone have experience with each?
Craig
Interesting. Here in central NC a 15xp (winch, 6.2 gas) is currently quoted at $72,984.88. For anyone elsewhere seeing lower prices, please do me a favor and ask for a quote for a 19xpc with winch and the 6.2 gas engine. I love the bandit machines, but we've had issues with the dealers.
Ya'll are going to hell. If you're going to indulge in habit-forming consumables, isn't it a terrible idea to develop tastes for the rare and the pricey? I studiously delight in instant coffee, Miller Lite, a futon-type mattress, and a lower shelf whiskey I don't even know the name of.
Alcohol sanitizing wipes, ziplock bags, pole pruner, binoculars. I like the little yellow write-in-the-rain notebooks and a yellow 0.9mm mechanical pencil.
I like to carry around a small piece of foam loaded up with little push pins for attaching small tags of flagging tape to trees for...
Tim Ferris Show is my current favorite. He's a first-rate interviewer with first-rate guests, most of whom I hadn't heard of prior to the interviews. Far better than Joe Rogan.
Trees are Key, with Paul Johnson, is another arborist podcast. Lots of good arboricultural info (sometimes I think...
Any updates for this thread about tracking devices for equipment and vehicles? Anyone happy with those Milwaukee devices? Seem to have a lot of bad reviews.
I've purchased a stump grinder and a chip truck from Cedar. Both instances were good Treebuzzy experiences with a fellow arborist--the sort of transactions that you're less likely to get from a used equipment dealer or Craigslist.
Among the various responsible alternatives you might offer are paclobutrazol soil applications. 40%-70% shoot growth reduction for 3 years with one application, requiring no special equipment. A gallon of the brand name stuff may seem pricey, but the materials cost for treating one 18" dbh...
I've found this USDA guide to be an excellent resource for controlling invasive vegetation: https://www.srs.fs.fed.us/pubs/gtr/gtr_srs131.pdf
Here's what Miller et al. recommend for oriental bittersweet:
No need to get the name brand herbicides. Plenty of generic equivalents here. For example...
Sounds like the same puzzle I've got with a white ash in Durham, NC. Sudden and premature leaf and petiole abscission with no signs of damage from insects, anthracnose, etc. Alarming because it started happening shortly after our emamectin benzoate injection. Lots of rain (too much rain), but...
