It is a solid black charcoal like color attacking the cambium layer and has pushed the bark off in areas that it is visible. Please help with identifying what this is..
Same here where i am with the red oaks and i am familiar with hypoxylon and in my experience hypoxylon is usually a more grayish color and kindy powdery to the touch unless this is how it looks after that grayish stage and ive just never seen it this far along in its process.

Do you have the duffel style or bucket style arbortech bag? I was looking to get the duffle style one for some of my personal things that i currently carry in an under armour duffel. Haix chainsaw boots, arbpro boots, extra socks, gloves, extra sthil safety glasses, extra chainsaw pants, and...
As a fix to this i was looking into getting rhino laces or iron laces for my arbs. Since i am in the process of ordering them as we speak i cannot comment on them but they are supposedly stronger than steel cable.
If this is just for an anchor for your basel setup because im not seeing a rescue setup anywhere then i would go with something simple like a bowline with Yosemite and an arm reach above an alpine with a caribener and pulley for rescue. Rescuer would run a (mrs) system through the pulley and...
Thats awsome because in my eyes anything made of soft material such as boots, bags, clothes, ect. Needs to at least last 1 year for me to feel that it was worth the money and any amount of time after that year is bragging rights for that item and builds a strong case for a re-buy of that same...
Totes are something ive thaught about because you could not get more organized than using seprate stackable totes but where i live and do most of the time you cant drive to the tree :/ its usually a hike away on sketchy terrain. Totes would be good for my tree shed though.
I give mad respect to any tac bag for i have alot of them and used to pack my gear around in one for around a year but i hike sometimes mountains here in WV to get to the trees im working so my biggest complaint with at least the tac bags i have was after packed with 40+lbs of gear i always felt...
Also worth adding is they are durable but the laces are not. Hard climbing and they are the weakest link. Just something to remember. Cheap fix at least.
Ive about worn my evo's to death at this point and am about to purchase another pair within the week but as far as cold weather... call it a personal foot disorder but my feet FREEZE in my arb pro's and i mean painfully freeze. During the winter i wear haix chainsaw boots and they keep my feet...
Nothing wrong with that buddy!! Always be thinking outside of the box while staying inside the box of safety!! I urge you to continue playing with gear and finding different ways of doing thing even if it isnt the best way or most efficient. Its all advancment of the mind and innovative thinking...
What gear bags are you guys running as your primary gear bag and why is that the bag for you? I feel like i keep finding the perfect gear bag just to eventually have to buy a different one because it seems more perfect... at the moment i am using a notch pro and it holds almost exactly...
Here is an option for you captain hook guys. I love DMM and overall everything they do is with perfection but the DMM bag that is used for the captain hook is not quite sized right for my liking. A better option that i have found is the petzl L tool bag because it is sized just right for the...
You are right and normally i run the zigzag so no need for much hitch thaught there but when running hitch chord i still have yet to find the perfect combo for hitch chord to rope to knot. I run a few different lines; tachyon ash, blue moon, notch dragon, teufelberger fly, and hawkeye for...
Agreed 100% it was just a situational thing at that time and place i tried it out on a "VT" that is 32" long where i am used to a 30" hitch for that same particular knot. The 2 extra inches on the hitch made for sloppy long legs and the xsre did cure that. I have a hard time straying away from...
So i was playing around in the canopy waiting on some things from the ground and while doing so i was looking at my hitch (VT), and was looking at the legs and was thinking hmm wonder what would happen if i capture the legs together with a dmm xsre mini. So i did and it kept my hitch oriented to...
