Yeah I can't really afford to spent more than 38k so will be buying used. I really don't like the idea of them new emission control devices. My brother is a diesel mechanic. He says that they have to run the engines a lot hotter. It seems like the diesel is where the gas engines were in the 80s...
So in other words the advantage of going with the F550 would be; does well at highway speeds, performs more like a pickup, more agile and actually made to pull on the highway not just carry it's own weight.
Does a bigger truck with a industrial engine get much lower fuel milage than a 550 with a power stroke or a Duramax? I guessing I'm under the impression that the bigger truck does about as good or maybe better??
We are looking to buy a chipper truck with toolboxes. I am thinking about getting a 19500 GVW truck or am I better off getting a heavier truck? A bigger one seems like overkill. Pros and cons of bigger or smaller?
I am currently running a two man crew and a small chipper. We do climbing only...
We were privileged to remove the largest tree in town. Over a hundred years old and 100 ft tall. Over six foot through at the base. Even housed a young coon.
:)
The skid will have a place for chainsaws, Alpine magnum, climbing gear, pole saws and ladder. It will enable us to quickly transfer the tools from one pickup to another or into the shop. I am hoping to find a way to carry the rakes that keeps them from getting bent and easy to grab. Also don't...
I am looking to build a skid that I can transfer from one truck to the next with my pallet forks. I am looking for efficient ways to carry rakes and shovels on the skid. What clever or practical ways are you using to keep your rakes and shovels organized and easy to grab? Pictures and...
Nice. I have played with the idea of trailer except that we about always have to pull the chipper with the pickup and the dump with the chip truck. So we probably will pursue building a skid with all the saws and everthing with its own holder.
How does your system work? Do you just set it on your pickup? I am thinking of building something I can load and unload the whole kit with the forks on the skidsteer.
I work in an area with lots of Siberian elms. I find that most of the time making small reduction cuts (around one inch) out of the very ends is all that is necessary to mitigate the risk of limb failure. This encourages the limb to sprout along its length helping to mass dampen it.

Hmm Valid point. Just looked at the specs; operating speed MT85=2.4 MPH in Rev, MT55=1.4MPH in Rev. TX -1000=doesn't say TX 525=2MPH SK850=4.7 forward & reverse S725TX= doesn't say. I can see why you like your DWs!
I'm getting the MT85 with the wide track option for a
little under 28k + also getting a so called first time buyer's discount of 2.6k off of machine and attachments. Machine is supposed to arrive around April11
:sisi:
A note to any one who may be interested in buying a BOBCAT. At least on the MT85 they now have the option for a industry standard mount or their Bob tach system.
In my area there are only three or maybe four rental companys. Also if just anybody can rent attachments, what if they have contaminated fluid in them. I think I will be very happy with the Mt85.
