Easy load balancing sling equalizer idea
Well yes and no...there are several points of friction on the eye, but your point is valid. One could put a munter in the lower biner I suppose. Maybe a nicer option to accomplish the Steve and Steve concept is a small prusik on the upper rope instead of capturing it with the eye. Then...- D x D

DMM throw hook.
Since folks are talking about various ropes to use, I thought I would share how I use my hook. I have it on the backend of a 30' sterling TriTech Rope (11 mm) that has two sewn eyes that I use as a lanyard also. It works great and I don't have to carry another rope for the hook. I capture...- D x D

CMI - ROPE JACK
I tend to use a come-a-long for many of these applications but that limits me to the length of cable. For pretensioning the cable is usually enough length, however pulling a distance is usually is a pain. Sure I can use a capturing prussic but that is a pain too. I cannot argue regarding the noise comments, it is much louder than a "normal .22". However, I do love the irony of guys w/chainsaws, leaf blowers, and wood chippers concerned about noise. Heck those three are the trifecta of residential noise hate. :-) Having said that, I would have no...- D x D

Actually don't sell them too short. I don't have this one, but I adapted my own from a dog thrower http://www.gundogsupply.com/retriev-r-trainer.html. I stripped the soft cover off the "dummy" and used about a 6" 1 1/4" pvc with epoxy with some steel BBs in the tip. (the bbs give it a bit...- D x D
