Well yes and no...there are several points of friction on the eye, but your point is valid. One could put a munter in the lower biner I suppose.
Maybe a nicer option to accomplish the Steve and Steve concept is a small prusik on the upper rope instead of capturing it with the eye. Then...
Since folks are talking about various ropes to use, I thought I would share how I use my hook. I have it on the backend of a 30' sterling TriTech Rope (11 mm) that has two sewn eyes that I use as a lanyard also. It works great and I don't have to carry another rope for the hook.

THIS! (like so much of what Oceans offers)
Like all tools, we tend to focus on a new tool versus what we want to do with the tool. Once you get back to more of a focus of getting to where you want to go versus how to use this tool to get there, I am betting you will find it a very comfortable...
Fun Video Wyatt. you looked real smooth. And though you said Imori wasn't the best, it seemed to tend and belay well in the video. Candidly I have used Imori on the bone and though it wasn't perfect, it worked well and I like the feel and grip of Imori. Not saying it is the best...just...
I tend to use a come-a-long for many of these applications but that limits me to the length of cable. For pretensioning the cable is usually enough length, however pulling a distance is usually is a pain. Sure I can use a capturing prussic but that is a pain too.

Hey Folks, I have this love-hate relationship with these suspender. Every time I think I am going to take them off, I don't. Or I put them back on. Frankly they seem like a great fit for me in winter clothes and with extra on the belt.
These are cheap suspenders from BucketBoss and are...
I have been interested and "toyed" with this for a bit, but frankly it felt a bit of a hassle. And now I just love it. What made it my go-to was a tree that was really wind wrecked and I was wondering about the TIP I chose in the bad tree for access to clean it up. It was one of those "looks...
I cannot argue regarding the noise comments, it is much louder than a "normal .22". However, I do love the irony of guys w/chainsaws, leaf blowers, and wood chippers concerned about noise. Heck those three are the trifecta of residential noise hate. :-)
Having said that, I would have no...
Actually don't sell them too short. I don't have this one, but I adapted my own from a dog thrower http://www.gundogsupply.com/retriev-r-trainer.html.
I stripped the soft cover off the "dummy" and used about a 6" 1 1/4" pvc with epoxy with some steel BBs in the tip. (the bbs give it a bit...
