The swing he wanted is to the left, like 220 degrees of pivot from the cut! Big rigging can save some work some of the time, and if you cant use the yard, then you get creative. But if you are trying to pull off some miracle swing, you absolutely need the right angles and the right persuasion...

I was just reading thru and had a strong reaction to this....belief? Value? Sentiment?
Like, I get that population and governance are kinda abstract ideas, but the whole slippery slope of totalitarian control leading to microchip trackers in every person proves you have an active mind.
I dont...
Ouch! A little bit of tangle is smaller price than a smashed saw or smashed whatever. Remember the lanyard is only as good as the connection to the saddle. Get something that locks or one might have to go thru the dropped saw lesson again. I had to replace the handle on my 150 after I let it...
Oh it's this problem again. Big brain time.
I dont know if I can help the discussion much further. Last time I got stuck insisting that at some point along the path of a rope in a doubled climbing system (ddrt) there would have to be a tensile force equal to the climbers load because the rope...
Ugh, vectors!
I dont think its very concerning, because each additional ring/bridge deflection is seeing less than %100 of the load. Triangle of death maybe doesn't apply to a harness because of operational limits that make using it possible? And the bridge is more like a v shaped twin anchor...
To pass on some wisdom from @Tony from another thread on anchors, " a shit anchor is a shit anchor...if you dont trust it, why (the f) are you climbing on it?"
I'm all in favor of 2 ropes and multiple supports, it helps in a wide range of situations. And I can understand having a base anchored...
Positioner fan. Never used zillion.
I dont ever have to think about it until it's time for a new clutch. The finger hook part comes off, preventing nearly all snagging and release incidents. I can add slack, deploy my lanyard and take slack all with one hand if I'm holding on in a tough spot...
I had a feeling you were going to be just topping it. Because why else would you need to leave all the limbs?
In this position, I would probably try to limb the top as much as possible to make it skinny. And not rig it down at all unless there is a clear path without lower limbs (or zero drop...
It certainly depends on what we mean by shitty! Every climb starts with a risk assessment, and there are a lot of things that can make a climber uncomfortable that arent seriously wondering if an anchor will fail.
Maybe I can elaborate. In my experience there is often a gray area of confidence...
I think there is a repeatedly misplaced focus illuminated here. And in other threads as well, deep dives into the technology we use. Discussions about strengths, statistics, elongation, manufacturing.....
The gear you use is never going to do anything significant to improve the tree structure...
Dont let them forget the butt sweat you left in that saddle!
Good tips for getting the climb:
First to get your gear to the tree. If gear is lacking, first to set a line. If your gear is at the tree and you are ready to go, very likely no one will stop you!
Bring the confidence in the form of...
Climb up the rope until you can reach something to pull yourself over there. Other limbs limiting your rope angle to the cut?
Climb above them and come down on the right side to reach the work.
Afraid of taking a swing?
Use your lanyard or 2nd system to secure your position and aid your...
Hot Take:
Competitions are mostly sport, as in recreation. They have value, but likely not much as training for noobs. The most enlightening event is the rescue, as the time spent executing, watching and thinking through an emergency response is hugely important, even for non-climbers.
I...
