When do you make the call

Hate to leave an unfinished job and hates climbing wet, soapy beeches. Your decision really depends on what is the worst bad for you, and nobody really likes things to be messed up just because some macho guy wants to show his stamina in bad conditions.

How did you get into tree work?

Welcome on the board Erlend. I guess I always have been into trees, my professional career started with logging and utility line clearance in 1986. Still do line clearance, logging is now taken over by machines - can´t compete with a harvester. Got into climbing as a consequence of facing a...

    No more Pfanner in Canada

VAT - value added tax, is a tax on turnover of all goods. When we as a copany buy stuff we can draw the VAT from the price, when we sell we must add VAT, the governments revenue is from the difference. As far as I know US is the only developed country that do not have this system. When selling...

Tree trimmer killed in 40 foot fall

Really a tragedy and I feel with the family. However, what we can learn from this is that a proper risk assessment would have made it clear that the powerline was a hazard that needed extra attention, either should the power been shut down or another route of access away from the line been...

    No more Pfanner in Canada

We retail Pfanner in Norway, a pair of Gladiator normal leg length cost NOK 1950, exchange rate currently is NOK 6,9 pr buck which will make them about 283 bucks. All prizes excl. VAT which in Norway is 25%. The bottom line is that they are totally worth it.

Breaking strength, SWL, WLL, safety factor...

Good thread. The weak link in the chain is as always the TIP or anchorpoint, these can only be rated according to experience and a proper risk assessment.

I could sure use some advice about a tree...

From your description and with no pic´s I´d say remove and replant. Ash occationally drop branches a couple of feet from trunk where they develop a bend prior to the failure.

    Sherril website slow

I have been trying to order from Sherrill for quite some time with no success, the website is simply too slow and frequently "hang". My computer is pretty up to date and I do not encounter similar problems with other web sites. Anyone else experience the same?

Covington man dies in tree-cutting accident

Sad indeed! I suspect they wanted to be really sure that the stump would com down and put too much tension on it before cutting.
