No more Pfanner in Canada

Pfanner makes the lengths you want but it costs a bit extra. The system is that all pants are made with an eighty cm leg length, then you can get them either 7cm longer or 14 cm longer. You can also get them shorter by 5cm at the time. They also have the Gladiators in ladies cut which shuold fit female forms better. Hi Vis are great and one of our best sellers.

Hi treebear, we retail the Pfanner brand in the UK and as in Norway the bright colours are very popular here too. I am interested to learn of the +14cm length - this isn't available in the UK, only +7cm. Maybe Norwegians are way taller than the little short Scottish guys?!

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but they do not sell any variety of chainsaw pants OR climbing pants in the US is women's sizes. Guess I should take this to wott.

Can you post a link to the Pfanner's? There is no way i could get them that cheap!!!

I apologize for the distrust in SherrillTree sewn by certain posters over differing costs but the fact is that pants produced for the UK do not meet the USA standard (as tested by UL last year). Please feel free to confirm this fact with Bernd Pfanner. Pfanner went through much trouble to produce a pant for the American market and perhaps it costs a few dollars more but it cannot be bought cheaper elsewhere. As for Canada, this product has to be imported into the USA and shipped over the boarder, adding to expense.

For those looking for really cheap stuff may I suggest Alborn up in Wisconsin. They are selling a small lot of imitation stuff for "great prices" like a Silky Zubat replacement blade for $12 bucks that, well, is worth $12 bucks. They also use our name (misspelled of course) to display a $12 dollar carabiner made in who-knows-where to compete with our (over-priced) Petzl Am'd sold for $18., the same price as on Amazon. It's your safety at stake here folks. As for me and SherrillTree, we'll stick with the real stuff.

Cheers guys

According to the standards I could find Pfanner's pants exceed the requirements:

[ QUOTE ]
ASTM Standard for Leg Protection for Chain Saw Users (F-1897-98). This standard requires that the chaps can stop a chain saw running at 2,500 feet/minute under controlled laboratory conditions. (There are no longer two classes of chaps as previously required by the American Pulpwood Association Standard, APA 92-A-12.) The performance requirements remain unchanged at 2500 feet per minute chain speed, tested at both 45 degrees and 90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the test sample. Compliance tests are performed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in accordance with ASTM F-1414, Measurement of Cut Resistance to Chain Saw Lower Body Protective Clothing.

And Pfanner's Class 1 pants are tested for 3900 Feet per Second.

The legal issues referred to by Nick above in his search to buy direct were likely during the time that Pfanner was registering (through UL) to sell in the US. Don't know enough about the whole exercise to provide a clearly detailed answer, only know it was considerable work. We also think the price is very high which makes promoting products like this a question of our sanity.
