Because I don’t find them to be particularly valid. The whole one handing the chainsaw thing simply makes me yawn to death. And I think Rico is being an alarmist to say that even a little bit of rocking is something everyone should be deathly afraid of. I’m fine with taking constructive...
I do 90% removals. Many of which are technical. There is a reason why tree work/ logging is considered one of the most dangerous jobs. They are not really looking at the guys that putter around the canopy with a silky.
If I were to blow more smoke I would point you toward my profile pic of the 130', 60" diameter multi leader white pine that we carefully dismantled in the middle of a cemetery with no damage to the grounds, or more importantly any headstones. But there's just something about 50' deadish hemlock...
Thank God. Thank you God for sending me someone to point out the err of my ways. And thank God is was a noble gentleman from northern California. You are the angel on my shoulder Rico ;)
My ego has nothing to do with it Rico; I simply don't agree with your sentiment. That spar was never in danger of breaking. Although it was stone dead, surprisingly enough, the wood on the butt was still very sound. But you wouldn't know that because the video doesn't show it. Videos seldom do...
Thank you for this post. It is kind of you to apologize even though it is unnecessary. I don't think you were trying to be an ass, I just think you have a different idea than me about the way (all) tree work should be done. I think it is very common in our industry in 2020 to shun any practices...
Lol! Treebuzz: where armchair arborists tie in. Let’s see you’re videos. I’d like to see a production climber worth their salt not one hand the saw. My god when did we all get so soft.
Train wreck? Lol. Not once were we in jeopardy of losing that thing over backwards. You honestly think that little bitty rock was cause for concern? I would expect different from guy that takes down monster trees like you do Rico. Or maybe you just like being a critical armchair arborist. The...
Thanks for watching. First of all, the video only shows like 8 picks out of the 18 or 20ish it took to dismantle the whole tree, but yes a lot of them were rigged to flip. This is simply because I knew I could get away with it safely, and more importantly, it it was much faster. I had a fairly...
"Trying to keep up" was just the caption I designated to add relevance to the scenario. If you are a climber who is self employed, and has 4 guys working under him, you always have an added responsibility to keep up. If you don't, you are not maximizing your profit margin. There is always a give...
Thank you. I've heard that same story a few times, and I definitely see that day coming soon when I upgrade to one of the new fancy harnesses out there. I've had this one for seven years and it was an upgrade from the caveman saddle my dad had me climbing on. Although I hang my life on a rope...
Thank you. I love the zig zag; you expend so much less effort tending slack compared to a friction hitch, and especially if you have pitch covered ropes.
I can assure you that the small bypass (that was limited to a few inches at one corner) you see in the video was not in any danger of diminishing the strength of the hinge. The camera angle made it looked deeper than it was. And I can also say that I am not cavalier about my notches, especially...
