How to get reasonably priced lumber for timber framing in NC?

Hi, I picked up a new hobby—timber framing. The lumber prices at big suppliers in Raleigh, NC, are too high for me. I am curious if any arborists in central NC produce lumber from the trees they cut. Or maybe you know some local small-scale sawmill enthusiasts who produce lumber at reasonable...

Knee ascender - difficulty with staying upright

Hi, Just tried Petzl knee ascender plus Zigzag and Notch foot ascender and cannot stay upright. Is it always so difficult to stay upright? I suppose it’s my extra pounds that make it so difficult for me. Just curious if staying upright is challenging for everyone . thanks.

Sequoia harness D rings and two bridges

Questions about configuration and usage: 1. Second bridge It’s a little longer than original. Should I mount the longer bridge above or below the original? 2. D rings I usually use upper rings for lanyard. How do you use the lower rings? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stinking harness

As a newbie I sweat a lot. My harness and especially petzl croll chest harness smell terribly (from sweat). I know I can wash it, but I cannot wash it too often. Should I just ignore it or there are some solutions? I was thinking about anti-bacterial spray. Thanks

Spurs pads adjustments. Should there be any pain?

I have Buckingham steel spurs with Buckingham Big Buck Velcro pads. It's supposed to be comfortable but I experience pain on the inner side of tibia (not sure about the bone name, but it's inner side of the bone below knee). I adjusted it according to manual (it says 1/2'' below knee) and some...

    Expensive arborist pants?

I see arborist pants easily costing 300$ or more. What's the point? Are they really worth that much money? Most of them provide no protection against chainsaw anyway. Thanks.

    4. Replace the spark plug monthly or more frequently if necessary

This is what I read in Husqvarna manuals for 550xp and T540. Monthly? Seems a little too much. My two year old 550xp occasionally has problems with starting and I am getting new spark plugs, although I doubt it’s the plug because it happens since I bought it. How often do you replace spark plugs?

    Chain occasionally doesn’t move

From time to time chain on my 2-year old Husqvarna 550 xp doesn’t move. Once I push it by pressing toward wood it will go and then it works ok. I have seen this happening to other people as well. Why is this happening? I keep my chainsaw clean and the bar/chain get enough oil.

    Husqvarna pre-mixed fuel - why?

I had to buy 3 bottles to get my warranty extended. However, I am puzzled why Husqvarna sells that at all for about 30$/gallon. Do people buy it? What’s the secret here? Is there anything special about this pre-mixed fuel? I just cannot understand it.

Single or double wrap for basal anchor?

I know everyone is wrapping just once for basal anchor. However, it looks to me that if I wrap it twice there is no chance that the anchor rope will ever slip. Anyone here uses double wrap for basal anchor? Thanks.
