They can just transfer the dog from border security to a police force, where accuracy doesn't much matter.
In the U.S., police drug dogs are only about 50% accurate. Might as well toss a coin.
I understand that's what you believe, but it's false.
If you don’t have an old physics textbook laying around, you can easily find many online resources on the topic.
Interesting. I have run into several people saying black rope was noticeably stiffer than other colors. I have 11mm PMI in many colors, including black, and I tend to agree.
The contact area does not affect the force lost to friction.
"Although a larger area of contact between two surfaces would create a larger source of frictional forces, it also reduces the pressure between the two surfaces for a given force holding them together. Since pressure equals force...
I can't recall ever seeing a rope access accident report where the cause would have been eliminated with a larger rope diameter.
I get your point, but today's ropes are so good, you really have to ignore obvious defects or go way outside the bounds of reasonable usage to fail a rope.
I think @flushcut made a good point about the rope coming out of the sheave. I can see a pre-rigged MA system made with these pulleys being a tangle every time you go to use it.
North Central Alabama, just south of Birmingham. Being named after a vacuum cleaner, you'd think Hoover sucks, but it's a pretty decent place. I'm especially fond of the free garbage pickup, twice a week. And they'll come pick up almost anything that's not hazardous material if you call and can...
With regards to standards and regulations, "should" generally means recommended, but not mandatory. "Shall" is used to indicate a mandatory requirement.
The web site says Sophia Sparks is retiring and closing New Tribe. Perhaps the company's financial situation was not strong enough to attract a buyer. Seems like you'd want to sell and have more funds for retirement. But I'm only guessing.
If I wanted one for splicing, I'd shop for used winches. A single used winch seems to sell for a fraction of the new cost. Check sailing sites. And I'd welcome cosmetic blemishes to further reduce the price.
Don't manufacturers' sites provide some type of spec on the capabilities of winches?
My wife planted a honey locust in our front yard many, many years ago. Best pruning cut I made on it was the one close to grade, i.e. I removed it. I always hated trying to clean up the tiny leaflets off the front walk and lawn. What a pita. It was extremely prone to splitting in a barberchair...
I'm sure you're well intentioned, but an ice bath has a high probability of causing a medical emergency for me.
Reminds me of an old thread where the topic of giving medical advice to people you don't know was cautioned against.
