New Tribe...is closing..oh no!

The web site says Sophia Sparks is retiring and closing New Tribe. Perhaps the company's financial situation was not strong enough to attract a buyer. Seems like you'd want to sell and have more funds for retirement. But I'm only guessing.

A cool American company making kick ass saddles goes down. Bummer.

Maybe Sherrill/TreeStuff could gobble them up and start making New Tribe saddles with giant NOTCH logos embossed on them so you can them from every angle. Produce them in Indonesia using cheap labor, shitty manufacturing, and subpar materials?

Most small businesses aren't worth more than the sum of their parts. New Tribe as a brand is not well known outside of very niche circles and even within those circles they're a very minor player. Not many people looking to get in to that. Think of trying to sell a small tree company. You're basically just selling the equipment.

I think they sort of passed on their knowledge and experience to August to continue with the MB stuff. Other than that it's just a bunch of sewing machines and some materials.

I do like my Onyx, except for the propensity to catch small bits of debris between the back pad and my back. Alternating into a dense Red Cedar is the worst for that.Otherwise… Very comfy and gobs of adjustment. Should last me a great while longer.

Makes me think about my own future, which is likely tree’in until I’m being digested by mushrooms. @Boomslang I like your sentiment on going out on your own terms.
