    One piece of advice.

    I would say "Find a mentor." Having someone good to work with will help you develop your knowledge and skills way faster than trying to figure it all out on your own. It will also be safer, resulting in less broken things (including you).

    My personal favourite rope for footlocking is Samson Velocity. Boot-wise I would suggest something with little to no step between the heel and the front of the foot, that way you can get the most contact with the rope when you take your locks. They should be light too.

    I have had no issues using a buntline hitch for termination with the hitchclimber. I clip the termination end into the middle hole on the hitch climber and use either a VT, Michoacan, or Knut. Never had it slip.

    I recently used the zeppelin bend when pulling a tree over and had to cut the rope because the knot was seized right up. I also do not like putting a stick in a knot which is why I use the bowline or double bowline on a bight.
