    Butt attack.

My instructions to him were to let it swing out over the yard before letting it run. He let it fly right away and the tips caught. :-(

    Butt attack.

Had it rigged off a redirect on an adjacent stem about 10 feet above and 5 feet away from my cutting position.

    Butt attack.

Topped out this big piece on a dead ash the other day, Groundsman let it run too far and the tips caught the communication lines support cable, sending the butt back towards me, I had my gaffs buried and no time to react, my left quad took a direct hit. The piece was maybe 750lbs. Aside from the...

    negative rigging

Am I the only one who imagines "negative rigging" as tying and lowering wood while someone yells disparaging remarks at you?

Super classic pain in the ass.

So this thing is officially TERRIBLE on all fronts, having played around with a few other foot ascenders at JAMBO and the NATCC I can say this ascender is no good. Do not buy. The spring is still way too tight and now a couple of the teeth on the gear have somehow bent up the wrong way, one...

    I've got an Issue.

Those damn trees were planted by the city at one time, and are now choking out native species throughout every ravine in the area.

Don't any of you tell mrtree your feelings about Acer platanoides, he'll call you a chainsaw wielding hack.

    Competition Climbing and Tree Work

They're only pissing on you if you let it get to you, just be above them man. If you taught them some trick they use all the time in comps or whatever.. power to you. Take solace in that, who cares if they appreciate it or not.. they know in their heart where they accumulated their knowledge...

    Competition Climbing and Tree Work

I learned a while ago in the rock climbing competition circuit to just let people live in their own little worlds and think whatever they want of themselves. Don't waste too much energy on people like that, it's not worth it.

Getting back from a limb walk.

So today I brought a thimble prussik with a revolver wiregate attached, to work. I attached it mid line where I wanted to start my limb walk from, redirected the tail through the revolver and back onto a snap on my harness to keep the tail with me. Worked a charm! Much better than attaching my...

    Ash ID

First tree is large, maybe 65 feet. Almost entirely dead except some epicormic growth along the trunk. Next is a small little thing, I'm thinking Sorbus accuparia or decora.

Getting back from a limb walk.

I tried this the first few times and it works well enough if the limb is horizontal, but I've been down a few droopy stems that sweep down the farther they extend, getting back up the limb when it's like that makes me look like a horse on rollerskates trying to get out of a bathtub.

Getting back from a limb walk.

Honestly, though. I've learned a lot from the discussion regardless.

Getting back from a limb walk.

Thanks DSMc. This looks like something I will try. As for the rest of you goons, you're terrible at answering a simple question

Getting back from a limb walk.

Recent convert from DRT, how do you guys get back in from long limb walks? Pulling on one leg of a DRT system was how I did it before.. how I do it now is I use a sling on a carabiner near my last redirect and clip my tail through it to create a 2:1, keep the tail with me and haul myself back in...
