This is a serious question: are chainsaws really that big of a contributor to emissions, such that there would be no other -BIG- contributor which could be regulated and take out 50% (or some other large proportion) of emissions?
In other words, in the total pie chart, as it were, of what...
Worked awesome on the pruning. Didn't have any cuts over 3", and most were 1.5-2" (ash, elm), so it was hardly a test of the saw's abilities. But, it was buttery.
Got it from eBay. Started the return process and it was approved by seller. Will ship tomorrow. That was painless!
About the conversion...
First of all, shipping from the UK was unbelievably fast - I ordered the bar and chain combo in Monday and it arrived midday today!!
Second, the Panther...
Got mine today and tried it out. It definitely bogs less and cuts more quickly than the factory chain. Not much room for debate. As to whatever downsides a small pitch chain might incur, I don't know yet. But so far this seems like a worthwhile mod.
Thanks for the word, mac.
I saw where Monkey Beaver is picking up the Panther bars as a 1/4 conversion package, so I went ahead and ordered from the site you linked, mac. They have a chain and bar conversion package already available - AND - free shipping to the US.
I don't know how many months that'll take to arrive...
I'll take a look, but the geometry of the existing holes is pretty simple, right? As long as there is an adequate 'seal' between each side of the bar and the corresponding side of the case/cover, AND the new holes overlap with the existing holes...seems like it ought to work. The additional...
I can stomach modifying the bar more than the saw (y) - it appears that they drill a hole for the tensioner, then widen out the oiler hole to cover the existing port on the saw.
Hmm - the tensioner is straightforward it seems, but the oiler hole - would that really work if the hole is just...
I stuck the old back on already, but yeah - sprocket, bar, chain all swapped. Bottomed out length adjustment (ccw - needs to be a little shorter, or chain needs ~2 more links or so).
Don't know if this will save you any trouble, but I ordered that bar with the 71PM3 72 chain and just tried it out.... It doesn't work :( Tensioner won't adjust short enough. Need longer chain I guess.
NSA thinks I'm talking about clipping-in to boners, arranging boners in opposing directions, admiring colorful boners (DMM's 3-pack), finding endless uses for mini- and micro-boners, etc., etc.
