    Have you checked the bollard on the bird for excessive wear? You can also rotate the same bollard 90*s and adjust it closer to the tip of the bird for a smaller opening. The other issue could be the spine may be worn down to the point that there's no pinching of the rope at the base of your RR...

    I've got one of these that I made with the Beast X Ring 12' long. These are easy to splice, you have to count out every loop precisely and do a triple Brummell splice, so you can apply tension from either end.
